Mangalore: Lakshmi Gupta Crowned Champion at National UCMAS Abacus Competition

Mangalore, Aug 21: Lakshmi Gupta, a student of class II of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, of the city, emerged the champion in the '8th All-India UCMAS abacus and mental arithmetic competition', held in Chennai, recently. UCMAS stands for Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic System. It is a whole brain development programme which enhances lifetime skills such as concentration, creativity, listening and photographic memory.
Lakshmi received a cash prize of Rs 1,500 and a trophy. She received the prize from Susan Tan, executive director, UCMAS Global Education Group, Malaysia, and Basheer Ahmed, chairman and managing director, UCMAS Mental Arithmetic (India) Pvt Ltd.

Dr Dino Wong, founder president,UCMAS Global Education Group, Malaysia, was also present on the occasion. Parithi Ellamvazhuthi, minister for information, was the chief guest.
About 2,500 students from 19 states in the country representing 431 franchise centres had participated in the competition. The participants were belonging to the select band of students who were the winners at the state-level. Six-year-old Lakshmi is a student of 'Fast Arithmetic', in the city.
UCMAS began in Malaysia and is now found in 33 countries including the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, China, and Saudi Arabia, besides India. UCMAS is a whole brain development programme which enhances lifetime skills such as concentration, creativity, listening, and photographic memory.
Lakshmi Gupta is the daughter of Rajesh Gupta and Nisha Gupta of Kavoor in the city.
