Udupi: 'Let Janmashthami Inspire People to Strive for Peace & Justice' - Puttige Swamiji

Udupi, Aug 23: Sri Sugunendrateerta Swamiji of Paryaya Puttige Math in his Janmashthami message has said that the presence of Lord Sri Krishna is auspicious and spiritually important for Karnataka, just like Lord Vithal of Pandarapur and Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala Tirupati. For this very purpose, the celebration of Janmashthami of the Lord is of paramount importance for the people of the state. The devotional service offered to the Lord by the coming together of people is more potent than individual services. Lord Krishna through Bhagawadgita has stressed the importance of selfless service and the work without any desire for the fruits borne out of it. Sri Krishna Janmashthami should inspire the people of the state to cogitate upon and make concerted efforts towards ensuring that peace and order settles down in the state. The 'Jnanayajna' or accumulation and sharing of knowledge should continue relentlessly, he wished.

The Swamiji said that libation will be offered to the Lord at 11.35 pm on August 23, followed with libation to the Moon God Chandra at 11.55 pm. During the 'Geetabhyasa-Kshetravasa' programme being taken up by the Math, study of Bhagawadgita will be encouraged in Gita Mandir here, he informed.

In the religious congregation organized as part of Sri Krishna Janmashthami Navotasava here, state food and civil supplies minister H Halappa advised the people to experience the Krishna consciousness as being preached by scholars. He felt that the politicians will do well to talk less and experience and practice Krishna consciousness more and more and be guided by what Lord Krishna has preached.

Scholar Dr Prabhakar Joshi, speaking on the topic of 'Krishna and Dharma' on the occasion, insisted that the Lord through his actions and preaching, has showed to the world that Dharma is more of a way of life and not a weapon to fight among ourselves. As he belonged to a tribal community, he never aspired to become a king. Although he decimated several evil kings, he never tried to become an emperor. On the other hand, he handed over the kingdoms won by him, to members of the erstwhile kings' lineage. He was a commoner among the common and the greatest among the greats, he described.

Educationist from Bangalore Dr K E Radhakrishna wished that the Krishna's way of dealing, which was to always hold aloft real and pure Dharma should become our own way of life.

Sri Sugunendrateerta Swamiji of Paryaya Puttige Math presided. Sri Raghumanyateerta of Bheemanakatte Math, MLAs U T Khader, Abhaychandra Jain, Raghupati Bhat, Lalaji R Mendon and MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary were present. K Sudhakar Rao, Vithal and K V Krishnamurthy were felicitated. Gopalacharya compered the programme.

I wish all my Hindu brethern a happy janmashtami and peace on the occasion. Dear Swamiji, could you please ask your parivar members, not to desecrete and destroy other religious places as done today to a christian place of worship. At least you can give the message of love and peace and respect for your neighbour on this great day.
