Bangalore, Aug 24: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has decided to expand his cabinet on Monday, August 25. Many senior BJP leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction over this move as some party ministers will have to resign, in order to accommodate new leaders.
Horticultural minister S K Bellubbi from Bijapur, has been asked to resign his post. Yeddyurappa told mediapersons, here on Saturday, August 23, that Bellubbi will be expelled from the cabinet and his followers have begun agitations in his hometown of Bijapur. The BJP has secured seven MLAs from JD (S) and Congress through its 'Operation Lotus.'
Chief Minister Yadyurappa declared the formation of a coastal development authority for the overall development of the coastal area, during his last visit to the district. Competition has begun among prominent BJP leaders in the region for the chairmanship of the body.
Sources informed that former minister B Nagaraj Shetty is a strong contender for the post of chairman. He lost the last assembly election against former Congress minister B Ramanath Rai in Bantwal constituency, since Shetty was not active in state politics. He is likely to come into prominence once again in the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district through the chairmanship of the new authority, sources opined.
