Engine Trouble in Hijacked Ship; Parents At Kayyar Await Abducted Son Kiran’s Return

Mangalore, Aug 25: The hijackers have taken the ship 'Iran Deynat' to a place called Eyl on the Somalia coast, sources informed on Sunday, August 24. Pirates had abducted all 24 crew members of the ship including three Indians.
The pirates have seized all the laptops and mobile phones in the possession of the crew and 17 pirates armed with guns are in command of the ship, sources added. Owing to engine trouble, the pirates have been unable to take the ship to their intended destination. It is believed there is also a shortage of drinking water on board the
hijacked ship.
The same pirates have hijacked another ship along with the 'Iran Deynat,' but the details of that ship are as yet unknown. The ship has encountered tumultuous sea and high velocity winds.
The Mumbai-based officials of 'Iran Deynat' have assured the relatives of the abducted crew members that they are negotiating with the pirates to allow all of them safe passage to their respective countries.
Prayer for safe return
Jeevan Kiran D'Souza, resident of Christ the King church, Kayyar, in Kasargod district, is one of the abducted crew members. His father Ligoury D'Souza is the vice-president of the parish council at Kayyar church. Liguory resides in Kayyar with his wife Bridgit and two daughters-in-law.
Jeevan Kiran is the youngest son of the family and was a seaman on the ill-fated ship. His elder brothers Wilson and Vivian work in Kuwait. His elder sister Veena resides at Kudupu, near Vamanjoor.
The parents and brothers of Jeevan Kiran have urged the union government to ensure his safe return. An appeal has been made to E Ahmed, Minister of State for External Affairs and Oscar Fernandes, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment.
