Mangalore: Situation Turns Violent at Kulshekar, Vamanjoor : Police Cane Mob, Hundreds Injured
Mangalore, Sep 15: A large number of Christians gathered in front of Kulshekhar Church in the morning of Monday September 15. The mob blocked the road and stopped movement of vehicles.
The police then caned the protestors to disperse them. The protestors pelted stones in retaliation, damaging a police van. The policemen then lobbed tear gas shells. A number of protestors are still in the church compound.
When the protestors tried to enter the premises of the Scared Heart School that was closed, the policemen chased and caned them, in an effort to disperse them. In the melee, some furniture items of the school were damaged by the policemen.
In the police caning, hundreds of people who had gathered in the church premises, were injured.
The situation continues to be fragile and tense. As it might turn violent any time, the policemen are keeping a tight vigil.
The protest then spread to Vamajoor where hundreds of protestors gathered, in violation of prohibitory orders. The policemen rushed there and lathi charged them, injuring several people. The policemen took into custody about 10 protestors from the spot.

Reports received from Bondel have confirmed that Our Lady's grotto at Vijayamarie Technical Institute, properties at the Infant Jesus Higher Primary School, Mary Hill and Mary Hill convent were damaged by the miscreants on the night of September 14.
In Kalladka, Souza Textile owner Stan and his wife were attacked by unidentified people. The couple have been admitted to a hospital. Heavy damage and loss to the properties have been caused, it is learnt.
