Jebel Ali: Dabazo - Mogachim Lahran, Fashion Show Captivate the Audience

Jebel, Ali, Sep 19: Jebel Ali Assisi Konkani community organised a Konkani musical event and fashion show to mark its anniversary on Wednesday September 18 at the Assissi Hall in the Jebel Ali Church compound.
Though the programme was planned about six months back and arrangements were being made since long, the organizers were not very sure of hosting the event now, in view of the tragic developments in Mangalore. However, they decided to proceed with the event, afer unitedly condemning the attack on innoncent Christians in Mangalore and elsewhere in India.
President John Monteiro in his presidential address said, "We deeply sympathize with the situation and offer our prayers for those who have been facing lot of sufferings in India". He also confessed, that it was very difficult to postpone the event due to logistic issues, and that it was decided to go ahead with the programme, after holding discussions with top leaders and members of the community. A one minute silent prayer was also observed, to express solidarity with the community members back home.
Uttam Menezes, noted compere in the UAE, took charge of the event and conducted the programme beautifuly.
A fashion show was organised, with a catwalk in the first round, followed by intelligence test through a quetion-and-answer session, which attracted the audience.
Michael and Yogitha Salian functioned as judges.
16-year-old Bianca Lobo, 11th Grade student of the Our Own English Highschool Karama emerged victorious, as she excelled in all the fields judged by the judges. The young girl nicely narrated the importance of marriage life, when encountered by a spontaneous question on the important factors in a married life
Asha Correa was declared 'Miss Beautiful Smile'.
First runner-up prize went to Sharon Rego and Reshma Monteiro bagged the second runner-up prize.
Mogachim Lahran fame Vincent Fernandes, who has brought out five musical albums in Konkani, and is now all set to set foot in Kannada music industry, led the muscial event of Dabazo. Other noted artistes from Dubai, Ratan Castelino, Dony Correa, Asha Correa, Veera Rodrigues and Uttam Menezes rendered hit Konkani songs penned and composed by Vincent Fernandes.
Vincent has even composed Konkani songs in popular Hindi tunes and these songs received lot of appreciation from the audience.
Four community achievers were felicitated on the occasion, for their meritorious services to the Konkani community at large. Noted dramatist Francis Fernandes Cascia, Entrepenuer and community leader and Rachana Award winner James Mendonca, Daijiworld.com creator Walter Nandalike and Mogachim Lahran Vincent Fernandes. Cheif guest of the event Fr Freddy D'Souza from St Mary's Church Dubai honoured the achievers with a shawl, citation and fruits.
Konkani comedy skits were presented by Pradeep Barboza and his team from Udentichim Neketram. Ocean Kids presented superb dance events.
Earlier, key sponsors, support sponsors and media sponsors were feliciated by the spiritual director Fr Eugine. John Montiero, Stevan Pinto, Roshan Chaco, and others were also at the dais.
Stevan Pinto welcomed the gathering, Roshan Charco proposed vote of thanks. Sumptuous dinner was served by Canara Restaurant Dubai. A houseful gathering enjoyed the Fashion show, Konkani music, skits and baila through out the event.
