Mangaluru, Jun 13: City police commissioner Vipul Kumar on Wednesday June 13 urged the people of Mangaluru to maintain peace and harmony in the wake of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. Eid will be celebrated by the Muslim community either on June 15 or 16.

Addressing a press meet at the commissioner's office, Vipul Kumar urged not to pay heed to rumours spread by miscreants. "Mangaluru is a peace-loving city. It is known for communal harmony and people from different communities celebrate festivals together. But recently some anti-social elements are trying to spoil the name of Mangaluru by spreading false rumours. They become active during festive seasons and political events in the city.

"Anti-social elements have been using social media for their agenda of spreading hate. But people should not pay heed to their activities. Spreading rumours is also an offence, hence if you receive any such information, kindly share it with the police and we will take action," he added.

He further said, "On the day of Eid, I urge the people of the city to follow traffic guidelines to avoid any inconvenience to the public. Our department has made all the necessary arrangements to ensure the festival is celebrated in a peaceful manner.”

On the day of the Eid, special prayers will be offered at Idgah mosque in Light House Hill road at 7 am, and the road will be blocked from 6.30 am to 10 am. The alternative route for vehicles passing through Hampankatta-Light House Hill-Dr Ambedkar circle will have to move through KS Rao Road-Falnir route.

Vehicular movement between City Centre-Light House Hill and parking towards Light House Hill will be blocked till the mass prayer ends.

Vehicles have been temporarily asked to park only on the left side on the stretch from Light House Hill central library to Vijaya Bank.
