Udupi, Jun 14: Cattle trader Hussainabba, whose body was found at Perdoor after his vehicle was waylaid by Bajrang Dal activists on the night of May 30, died of injuries on his head, the post-mortem report has revealed.
The post-mortem report was submitted by the investigating offices in the court on Thursday June 14.
Bajrang Dal activists, along with the police had allegedly waylaid Hussainabba's vehicle for transporting cattle, allegedly illegally, in the wee hours of May 30. While two persons who with Hussainabba managed to escape, Hussainbba was assaulted and his body was found on a hillock at Perdoor later. Investigation revealed that the police had dumped Hussainabba's body after he died in the police vehicle while being taken to the station. It was speculated that he died of cardiac arrest, however, the post-mortem report has stated that he died of head injuries. The case has already been handed over to the CID.
The court during the hearing of the bail application of the accused in the case had on Wednesday June 13 issued a notice to the investigating officers to submit the post-mortem report. Accordingly, Karkala ASP Rishikesh submitted the report to the judge Venkatesh Naik through special prosecutor Shanthi Bai.
The post-mortem was done at Manipal hospital. The report states that head injury was the cause of Hussainabba's death, official sources told daijiworld. Also, blood clots were found on Hussainabba's head, and the FSL report on them is awaited from a Bengaluru lab. It may take up to three days, sources said.
The report thus confirms that Hussainabba was murdered. The police have already registered a murder case against arrested VHP and Bajrang Dal activists.
Meanwhile, the judge Venkatesh Naik who heard the arguments on the bail plea of the 10 accused - three cops and seven Bajrang Dal activists - said that the order on the bail application would be issued on June 18. On Friday June 15, all the accused will be produced in the court as their judicial custody would end.
Hiriadka SI D N Kumar, head constable Mohan Kotwal, police jeep driver Gopal are being represented in the court by lawyers Shantaram Shetty, Vijaykumar Shetty and M Sanjeeva. Lawyer Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, who is the also the district BJP president, is the counsel for main accused VHP leader Suresh Mendon alias Suri and the other Bajrang Dal activists.
