Bengaluru, Jun 14: With several Congress and JD(S) legislators remaining unhappy at being denied ministerial berths in the HD Kumaraswamy-led JD(S)-Congress coalition government, many could land chairmanships of boards and corporations as the government is likely to clear the appointments of at least 30 state-level bodies within a week.
While the disgruntled MLAs of the two ruling parties are likely to be accommodated with appointments to the posts of chairmanships of the boards and corporations, the new government is also likely to continue the various populist schemes launched by the previous chief minister Siddaramaiah under the "Bhagya" nomenclature.
The Kumaraswamy-Parameshwara government will be guided by a Common Minimum Programme(CMP) for the smooth functioning of the government and the same is expected to be cleared in the next 10 days.
These were the key decisions of the Congress-JD(S) Coordination Committee headed by Siddaramaiah, which met for the first time in Bengaluru on Thursday
Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, JD(S) National Secretary General Danish Ali and AICC General Secretary in-charge of party affairs in Karnataka KC Venugopal participated in the meeting.
The meeting decided to constitute a 5-member committee with 3 members from Congress and 2 from JD(S) to draft the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) after a thorough study of the manifestos of both the parties.
The committee would submit its draft CMP document within 10 days.
"The Coordination Comittee will finalise the CMP after scrutinising the draft CMP to be submitted," Chairman of the Coordination Committee Siddaramaiah said briefing the reporters after the meeting.
Siddaramaiah removed doubts about the fate of various populist schemes launched by the previous Congress government by stating that the meeting decided to continue all the flagship welfare programmes of the previous government.
With both Congress and JD(S) leadership facing dissidence from those who failed to get a berth in the ministry, the Coordination Committee has resolved to appoint heads for 30 plum Boards and Corporations within a week as part of the strategy to douse the fire of dissidence.
"Congress and JD(S) will share it in the ratio of 20:10 in accordance with the power sharing agreement," Siddaramaiah said.
As for implementation of Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy's promise of farm loan waiver, the committee, Siddaramaiah said, "it is part of the JD(S) manifesto and the proposed committee will look into it while preparing the CMP."
