Mangalore, Sep 20:  Fascists use violence to come to power and change the democratic set-up to suit their needs. This is what has been happening in the BJP-ruled states in the country, said Teesta Setalvad, secretary, Citizens for Justice and Peace, and noted social activist.

Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday September 20, she said that the fascists targeted the Dalits in the country for years. Later, they shifted their targets to Muslims and now Christians have been targeted by them, she opined.

The state administration is practicing partisan behaviour regarding Sangh Parivar activists. Interestingly, there has been no transfer of police officers in Dakshina Kannada district and the police personnel are controlled by Sangh Parivar goons, she said.

Ganapati, station inspector, Kadri, and Jayant Shetty, station inspector, Ullal, are directly responsible for the atrocities on Christians in Kulshekar and Permannur, respectively. The state should take stringent action against them, urged Setalvad.

The judicial probe ordered by the chief minister should be extended to the neighbouring  districts where churches have been attacked. Christians are living in much fear in Dakshina Kannada, hence, the state should create an environment where the minorities  feel secure, she demanded.

K L Ashok of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike said that the organization will hold a protest meet in Davanagere on Tuesday September 23, opposing the attack on Christians and other deprived groups in the state by the Sangh Parivar. Many progressive organizations of the state will participate in the rally, he added.

Progressive thinkers Suresh Bhat, Pattabhiram Somayaji, Umar U H, and Mohammad Kakkinje, were present at the press meet.
