Mangalorean Christian Community in Abu Dhabi Holds Protest Meeting

Abu Dhabi – Sep 21: Mangalorean Konkani Christians held a protest Meeting in Abu Dhabi on the Saturday evening September 20, to show their solidarity with people of Mangalore, who underwent a traumatic time, when fanatics attacked Christian places of worship all over Karnataka, specially in Mangalore and Udupi Districts.



 


The gathering was attended by prominent personalities from Abu Dhabi and large number of Mangalorean and Goan Konkani speaking people, which was presided by Fr. Anthony Lopez along with Leo Rodrigues, a prominent Business man in Abu Dhabi, Dolphy Vaz, Bennette D'Mello, and Leena Fernandes on the Dais.



 

In their speech they stressed to safeguard Christian people who are peace loving and God Fearing and this incident and atrocities by he fanatics and police personnel have come has a shock to catholics and which has come as wake up call to safe guard their religious beliefs. They emphasized that Catholics never never indulge in any sort of violence and highlighted the attrocities committed by the local administration especially the police force.




 


Therefore they pledged their support to the people of Mangalore, morally or any way they can and will show their solidarity by whatever measures.

As a protest a memorandum will be submitted to H.E. Talmiz Ahmed - the Ambassador to the UAE with a copy to the President of India, Prime Minister of India, Chief Mininster of Karnataka, District Administration including Deputy Commissioner and Police Chief.  The Memorandum has highlighted the atrocities and the achievements and services rendered by the Catholic Community in all over India.


The meeting concluded with vote of thanks by Bennett D'Mello and Leo Rodrigues.

Earlier yesterday  Friday 19 September, A special prayer meeting was held , with an Adoration by Konkani prayer group, specially to pray for the people of Mangalore to give them strength to bear the torture and humiliation by following Christs’ teachings of humbleness and restraint.

     Christians are terrorized in several states of India by a small group of thugs on the orders of certain fascist organizations. This tradition of destruction has been started in 1999 December in Gujarat. It is intensifying in several states, especially in Orissa and Karnataka possibly to the level of genocide. This persecution, possibly a slow elimination of Christians, 3% of India 's one billion people, is expected to continue.
