Dubai, Sep 21: Gulf Voice of Mangalore, a talent- hunt show for the Konkani speaking community that is spread all over the Middle East has just started to warm up. Except Muscat , all other Gulf states have completed their first round and are looking forward to the semi-final round.
UAE, the most popular destination for Konkani activities is set to organize the semi-finals under the banner of the most vibrant Konkani community organization in the Gulf , Mangalore Konkans Dubai on Oct 3, 2008 at the Indian Consulate Auditorium.
Already 14 contestants have been selected for the semi-finals and two will be chosen on Oct 3 for the finals to be held in Kuwait. Konkani legend Wilfy Rebimbus, yodeling king Melwyn Peris, and music maestro Joel Periera will choose the two top singers from UAE.
Gulf Voice of Mangalore is considered to be one of the most popular and top rated talent show in the history of Konkani music, holding a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh rupees to the winner.
Lawrence Pinto and Louis Rodrigues from Kuwait are the backdrop players of this event under the banner 'Youth Recreation Club Kuwait'.
Mangalore Konkans Dubai is all set to stage the semi-finals of the Gulf Voice of Mangalore, UAE Chapter at the Indian Consulate Auditorium. Gates open at 5pm and the event will begin at 6pm sharp.
According to the President James Mendonca and Main Coordinator Valerian Peris, this event is the first of its kind in the UAE. The program will last for three hours consisting of two sessions. During the first half , 14 semi-finalists will compete for the top two places to fight it out in the finals to be held in Kuwait on October 17th, 2008.
In the second half , the audience will be entertained by well renowned Konkani singers Wilfy & Meena Rebimbus and Melwyn Peris Music will be played by Joel and his troupe. Leslie Rego, Mangalore's popualar compere will host the show.
