Mangalore, Sep 25: The special squad headed by deputy superintendent of police Jayant Shetty did a thorough investigation of the Airtel office here on Thursday September 25, as the suspect in the Delhi serial blasts case used SIM cards from this provider.
Suspect Mohammed Shaffique alias Shaffi (23), who visited Manipal prior to the blasts, had bought the SIM from a mobile shop in Kodialbail. Sources informed that the terror suspect had produced fake documents when purchasing the SIM card.
As Airtel authorities sold the SIMs without proper documentation, they have come under scrutiny. One of the field sales executives of Airtel in the city had admitted to the sale of SIM cards without collecting proper identity proof from customers, following which higher authorities in the company were questioned.
