Mangalore: Newly-built Portico of Lord Hanuman Shrine Inaugurated at Kudroli

Mangalore, Sep 26: Ex-union minister B Janardhan Poojary inaugurated the newly-built Mukhamantap (portico) of the shrine of Lord Hanuman that is located within the precincts of Kudroli Lord Gokarnanatha temple in the city, on Thursday September 25.
"The Lingam of Lord Gokarnanatha had been consecrated at this holy place by Brahmasri Narayanaguru. The temple has since gained in stature and grandeur. The Mangalore Dasara being celebrated every year by the temple has added to its popularity and multiplied the number of devotees. Now, the idol of Lord Hanuman has been re-consecrated as per vaastu suggestions. Special programmes will also be conducted at the behest of the devotees who repose their faith on the Lord here," Poojary said in his inaugural speech.
Poojary thanked his childhood classmate and ex-chairman of Vijaya Bank K Sadanand Shetty for making major contribution towards the cost of building the attractively designed and sculpted portico. Sujatha Sadanand Shetty too was present on the occasion.
Bharat Co-operative Bank Mumbai president Jaya C Suvarna presided over the inaugural. Cine artiste K P Nanjundi participated as chief guest. President of the temple governing council H S Sairam and other trustees also participated in the function.
The portico has been attractively designed. It is 55 ft long, 32 ft wide and 26 ft high. Twelve intricately sculpted pillars that are 12 ft high, have added to the beauty of the shrine. The entire inner surface of the roof is covered by intricate and eye-catching craftsmanship. The portico has adopted the Chola and north Indian style of sculpture. At the entrance of the portico, the idol of Lord Hanuman in the popular pose of opening his chest and laying bare the images of Lord Srirama and Seeta within has been mounted on the top.
