Udupi, Aug 1: A day-long Konkani literary workshop hosted by Uzvaad Konkani fortnightly and Daiji Writers Forum was conducted on July 29 at Bishop’s House Auditorium here.
The bishop of Udupi Fr Dr Gerald Lobo inaugurated the workshop in a unique way by writing a quote of Joseph Stalin, ‘Writers are the engineers of conscience’ on the white board.
The resource persons were welcomed and introduced to the gathering by Fr Chetan Lobo, the editor of Uzvaad. Veteran story writer and novelist Stan Ageira, Mulky, dealt elaborately on short story writing and evoked a number of queries from the participants. Kendra Sahithya Academy awardee poet Melvyn Rodrigues conducted the session on poetry. Going through certain poems, he analyzed them along with the participants. Fr Jocy, Siddakatte, well-known poet and the editor of ‘Naman Jezu Ballok’ monthly assisted him by reading out one of his popular poems.
In the afternoon session, journalist, thinker and the editor of ‘Amcho Sandesh’ Konkani monthly Wilfred Lobo, Padil, gave an in-depth presentation on ‘Articles’. He cited several well written articles from other languages and inspired the participants.
The participants were divided into groups basing on their interest in writing poetry, short story and articles. The groups responded wholeheartedly to attend the follow up workshops which would be held periodically. Fr Chetan insisted on writing in other languages such as Kannada and English without sticking only on Konkani.
The chief of Daiji Writers Forum, Dinesh Corea, members Vincent Pinto Angelore, and Alwyn Pinto were present for the workshop. Well known Konkani women writers like Jeyel Manjarpalke, Felcy Lobo Derebail and others inspired the young writers by their presence. As many as 36 young writers from Mangaluru and Udupi districts participated in the workshop.
The Daijidubai special issue of ‘Naman Ballok Jezu’ was released on the occasion.
