Udupi, Aug 4: MCCQ Charitable Trust, an initiative by Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Doha Qatar, was launched on Saturday, August 4 at Milagres Tri-centenary Hall Kallianpur. On the same occasion MCCQ distributed scholarships to deserving students of Udupi diocese.
Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld.com, was the chief guest for the programme.
“Every year MCC holds many pro-social and cultural events. I had got a chance to visit Qatar for one of their programmes. Today situation in gulf countries is not the same as compared to olden days. Uncertainty of jobs is the major danger. This move by MCC to help others in this crucial stage is appreciable. I wish all the best for MCCQ charitable trust, a great initiative by MCC,” said Walter Nandalike in his inaugural address.
“Today who has received scholarship must remember that they too have a responsibility to pass on the benefits of the same to others when they earn. In our childhood we lacked facilities the modern generation enjoys. Students should make good use of these facilities and must always remain grateful to the donors,” he added.
Presiding over the programme, Bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo said, “One who receives education will benefit its fruits for lifetime. Behind this scholarship distribution, there is hard work and sufferings of many people. Pope Francis says we can become saints by doing small deeds. MCC is doing these types of deeds,”
“In Udupi diocese through educational fund, we are educating around 260 students. KCWA, a Kuwait based organisation is also contributing a big amount for the educational purpose of our children. We need to take scholarships available from the government also. During the last year, our students had drawn Rs 3 crore for educational purpose under different scholarship schemes,” he added.
Scholarship was distributed to around 30 students of Udupi diocese. Similar scholarship will be distributed to students of Mangaluru diocese also on Sunday.
Speaking about the association, Alfred Sequeira, Advisor and Trustee MCC said “We are expressing our love through these small deeds. Students, who receive scholarships, have greater responsibility to work hard and earn good marks. We had started MCC in 1992 for the purpose of uniting the people of Udupi and Mangaluru region living in Qatar. In last 26 years we have helped many people. Education is a must in today’s world. This money is the result of hard work of many of our members. They have sacrificed their luxuries for this purpose. Students should make good use of this.”
Fr Lawrence D’Souza, Rector of Milagres Cathedral and members of MCC were present during the function.
MCC former president Prakash Noronha thanked. Fr Pius D’Souza, the local coordinator of MCCQ Charitable Trust spoke on the occasion and briefed about the trust.
