Bengaluru: State police constables to have new look with peak caps

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 5: If the plans which are afoot go ahead as scheduled, the police constables in the state will soon be spared of their slouch caps, which are proposed to be replaced with peak caps like their Tamil Nadu counterparts.

Preparations are afoot to bring this change, which is expected to change the image of the policemen in the minds of the general public. In addition to enhancing their appearance, these caps will also make the constables look like higher level officers.

At a meeting held in the state police headquarters here which was chaired by director general of state police, Neelamani N Raju on Saturday August 4, serious discussions about change in design of caps and uniforms of constables were held.

As per the current plan, the constables will sport peak caps like the ones currently worn by police inspectors. The central health department had, in its report to the police department here, observed that slouch caps create obstacles during law and order maintenance and operations and that their design is not in the interests of the health of constables.

In the past, the then state director general of police, Dr Ajai Kumar Singh, had issued a circular against addressing the lower level officials of his department as constables. He wanted to give a status of respect to constables, who number over 80,000 in the state. The then inspector general of police, Nissar Ahmed, too had recommended to Kempiah, who was then head of police welfare committee, to bring changes in the uniforms and design of caps provided to the constables.

Firstly change their working shifts.. poor guys they do night duty from evening 9 to morning 5 am and come home have rest for 1 hr and have to run back again to station for roll call... rubbish police seniors make the constable s to get fish fro market and all other stuffs... no leaves granted for any functions.. they cannot enjoy any family functions or festivals . also they are tortured by the seniors... another thing their salary has to be increased.. as they too want their kids to get good education ... a normal bank person who sits in AC and work for 8 hers and gets all facilities will get 25000 to 50000 sal.. but these police people who do night beats and all the shifts have to beg for salary increase... obviously they will take bribe... imagine one day without police.. how our life would be

These days private watchmen in buildings have better uniforms and look smarter than the Police. Also the uniforms of the Immigration officers at our international airports are pathetic and need to be changed. Apart for the colour and design, the officers themselves appear shoddy and wear dirty uniforms. Having visited a few countries myself I find our immigration officers to be the untidiest in the whole world. They should be provided smart and attractive uniforms and also trained and warned to appear neat and smart at all times.

The priority is to change the mind set, not uniform. These constables must be paid well so that they are not tempted to accept bribes. Secondly their proper training must be provided and change their communal mindset.

Peak Caps are good if it is provided with a CARRY BAG along. Otherwise they would not run with it. Instead providing a REVOLVER / PISTOL is perhaps ideal. Lathis are out-dated. GOT MY POINT...........!!!!!!Provide them 18 months regerous police commando training with GRADUATES to ABOVE qualifications. otherwise PERHAPS A PERFECT KAR NATAK police.

Very good move. But at the same time the colour of the uniform must also change why because nowadays it is very difficult to find out who is police and security guard, home guard, some time ksrtc bus drivers. Public should not get confused. One must recognise Police easily.
