Mangaluru: Little Krishnas centre of attraction at Janmashtami celebrations

Mangaluru, Sep 2: The premises of Shree Kadri Manjunatha Temple here brimmed with cute little Krishnas on Sunday, September 2, as scores of children as young as seven months participated enthusiastically in Krishna fancy dress competition organized by Kalkura Prathishtana.

Accompanied by their parents, the enthusiastic children dressed in colourful attires depicting Lord Krishna filled the temple premises with laughter and chatter.




Srikrishna Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, was celebrated with religious fervour and joyous mood at the temple here.

Celebration at Udupi

Udupi, Sep 2: One could feel the festive atmosphere of Vitlapindi and Sri Krishna Janmashtami at Sri Krishna temple, Udupi on Sunday, September 2.

Paryaya Shri Palimaru Math seer Shri Vidyadeesha Theertha Swamji and Ishapriya Tirtha Swami, the junior seer of Admar Math prepared laddus, which will be offered to Sri Krishna as Naivedhya.

The idol (made of soil) of Lord Krishna was decorated beautifully with blue paint. Devotees from all over the country are visiting Udupi to worship the Krishna idol.

The Muddu Krishna competition organised as part of the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations was also a main attraction. The competition was held in different categories for children of different age groups such as Muddu Krishna, Bala Krishna, Kishora Krishna, where children dressed up as Lord Krishna.

Parents were seen getting their children ready. Entering car street gave a feel of entering Vrundavan, where many cute Krishna’s were brought together to play.

The Rajangana hall was full of children dressed as young Lord Krishna. Parents were giving tips to their children on how to behave and dance on the stage. On the stage, the children tried to imitate the childhood pranks of Lord Krishna to devotional songs being played in the background.

Some children walked on floor and even danced in tune with the music. Many children imitated eating butter, ice cream from the earthen pot. Another child imitated playing the flute. Some cute Krishna’s crawled on the stage. Few children who seemed irritated were screaming and wanted to leave the stage.

Another boy named Kaustubha Rama Thantri attracted the audience by wearing Tulasi garland.

The competition helped the audience recollect the childhood memories of Sri Krishna. They appreciated the efforts put in by the children by applauding them. The competitions were held in four categories — below one year, one to two years, three to five years and six to 10 years.

The Rangoli competition attracted many participants, who drew attractive designs at the Anna Brahma hall. The Palimaru Swamiji visited the hall and admired the Rangolis.

Huli Vesha

The Huli Vesha (tiger dance) is a major attraction of the festival. The beats of Chande, Thase echoed while the tigers danced their hearts out. The Huli Vesha troupes had children and adults dressed up like tigers who grabbed eyeballs by performing in front of shops, junctions in the city.

They entertained the people by their vigorous dancing. Though there was rain, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the dancers.

Besides this, many artistes have attracted the people by wearing unique costumes.

On the day of Vitalpindi, the main ritual ‘Arghya Pradhana’ will be held at 11.48 pm on Muhurtha by Palimaru swamiji.
