Mangalore, Dec 27: A team of students belonging to a college run by a private education trust in Mangalore had planned an excursion, starting from here late night on Friday December 26. Some miscreants attacked their bus near the Kannur mosque in Adyar, a little distance away from the city, injuring the bus driver and a few of the students.
A group of about 20-25 men, who arrived by two-wheelers and auto rikshaws, stopped the bus on the highway. At first, they pelted stones at the driver and damaged the bus, before beating up a few students travelling by the said bus.
About 35 students including a few girl students were on their way to Bangalore for their annual excursion. Reliable sources informed daijiworld, that the students were attacked, as boys and girls belonging to two different religions were travelling together, and the attackers suspected it to be a fun ride.
The bus was partially damaged and the driver escaped with minor injuries. A few students also suffered minor injuries, an eye witness said.
Of late, groups who have taken upon themselves the task of ‘moral policing' have become active in the city and surrounding areas. This is the latest addition to a number of such incidents which take place here regularly. The self-styled moral police groups suspect that boys and girls belonging to different religions meet together just for roaming around and dating publicly.
A case has been registered in Kankanady police station.
The management of the private college to which the students belonged, was not available for the immediate comments.
