Mangalore: All 27 Accused in Pub attack Granted Bail

Mangalore, Jan 27: After much public rage over the Mangalore pub attack where girls were beaten up by a fringe group called Ram Sene, a local court granted bail to all the 27 accused arrested in the case.

There was another shocker by the National Commission of Women, which pointed fingers at the girls who were beaten and the pub.

Blaming security lapses in the Mangalore pub incident, the NCW said on Friday that it will recommend cancellation of license of the restaurant as it was supposed to serve only food to guests.

The Karnataka Police had earlier produced the members of Sri Ram Sena in a local court on Wednesday.

The attack was carried out by members of the Sri Ram Sene on Sunday, who said they had received complaints from the public about the presence of young women.

The five or six women in the pub were chased out and hit by the self-appointed moral police. Members of the Sri Ram Sene have justified their actions.

The police have made ten arrests in the case - charging the men with criminal assault, intimidation, outrage of modesty and criminal trespass.

This is sadly not an isolated incident of groups taking the law into their own hands. Churches and prayer halls around Mangalore were attacked just a few months ago over alleged conversions. In Bangalore, rave parties on the outskirts of the city were raided - not by police - but by members of the Kannada Rakshana Vedike.

A state that once had a strong image of peace and tolerance seems to be heading in a very different direction now.

I concur with R. Prabhu and add the following. Alcoholic drinks were in our culture from times immemorial. What is Toddy ? were not a number of women (forget about the Caste system now) not drinking Toddy regularly in Karnataka ? And go to the ancient history/writings: Remember SOMARASA ? What about Gaanja?bhaang widely used by many in Gujarat and other States ?

Beer in a PUB is not western culture as we have been reading. This is an interesting piece of information: Beer is one of the world's oldest beverages, possibly dating back to 6000 BC, and is recorded in the written history of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.

The earliest Sumerian writings contain references to a type of beer. A prayer to the goddess Ninkasi, known as "The Hymn to Ninkasi", serves as both a prayer as well as a method of remembering the recipe for beer in a culture with few literate people.[5][6] Beer is one of the world's oldest beverages, possibly dating back to 6000 BC, and is recorded in the written history of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.[7] The earliest Sumerian writings contain references to a type of beer. Mangaloreans are concerned about what is happening in Mangalore and it is a very bad thing that women are molested and the attackers go free. By changing the issue to pub culture and afzal guru and ancient indian culture is trying to cover up guilt.

Dear Mr. Naveen, The concern for us is the state government. Central government cannot interfere in the state unless there is grave law and order break down. Even law and order is broken down in states the existing governments deny and accuse of interfering in non-congress ruled states.

Afzal Guru is in Indian jail. Even any ransom is offered congress will never handover to Kandahar or any other country. In your comments you have advocated the recently sprouted dal-bil sena-bina, abihinav bharat, abvp are all outlaws. Government has not given them the authority to protect the law. We have law-enforcement to protect the citizens. People have criticized MNS, MES who are all affiliated to BJP. I do not advocate promotion of alcohol, smoking and prostitution anywhere in the world which are not new to our society.

If anybody go through the history one can find wars, rumours of war, killing, rape, prostitution, abuses, slanders, drugs, brutality were all not new to the present world but history is repeating itself. The main reason for all these is the wealth. People have lot of time and means to spend in backbiting and merrymaking.

However rational people only understand by reading the history and walk in righteous ways without repeating the past.

Dear all I was going through all the comments on the managlaore pub attack and assult on women. I strongly condem the attck whoever has done it.But on the other hand in all parts of India our young college students are victms in most of the cases of this culture. There must be some restrictions or age limit to enter the pub. I have seen my self most of the students during the college timings are inside the pubs. If Govt don't put some guidelines to the pubs it is dangerous to our young generation. This may affect each one of our kids. I have seen people are blaming the present Govt saying that they are playing dirty politics to protect the Rama sens, Bhajrangdal, ABVP RSS etc. I want to ask all of you why don't you question the Delhi Govt for protecting their MLA who is accused in the Tandoor murder case where a women was brutely killed. What about the the great UPA Govt who also playing with the sentiments of people by protecting the parliament attcker Afsal? why none of us remember these things. MNS activists are beating people of other states why no one is raising your voice against Maharastra Govt??? Every party will play their politics only thing is we people must be vigillant of all these and don't blame only BJP.

There is no surprise they got bail. Where are the female petitioners? who filed the complaint? no one came forward to file a petition...all the victims are afraid coming out and lodging a complaint because they do not want to come in to public picture. so naturally miscreants will get bail.... It is India and it can not be westernized. Only way is to ban Rama sena.

Now it becomes necessary for each like minded individual to act. Now its understood that you can take Law into your own hands and actually get away with it. Now the solution is to identify the culprits from the Video/Photos and teach each of them a similar lesson. Act people act !

Its very fustrating to see few women putting 'Sindhura' to these disgraced people who belong to SRS. Probably they may not be aware that tomorrow the same guys  will not think twice before laying their hands on them or their daughters.

Request all Mangaloreans to be alert because now the so called 'Ravana Sene' is on the prawl. They will not hesitate to stoop to any level to satisfy their fetish and can strike anywhere anytime thanks to our district adminstration. Futher I request all the victims of this incident to come forwad and file a complaint at least in the interest of soicety. And the guys who accompied them to the pub if you are not able to persuade your mates to file the FIR.

PUB CULTURE = Single Mom and Divorce Culture. This has been proved in the west and europe. Its up to Indian kids what they choose in their life. USA and WEST Europen countries wants Indian Kids to buy their products especially beer and wines. These companies support news channels through advertisements. Thus news channels loose their noble thinking powers and become 'AAJ KE RAVANS'. First get rid of western media who are spoiling India.

Do you know what was Indian Culture 2009 years ago and how it has evolved over the centuries to what it is today. 2008 yrs ago I dont think there were clothes to wear. Let us accept the fact that the world will change and has to change. Space, TV, Radio, Telephone, Internet, and so many things was not in our culture 50 years ago. Pub is building with a bar and public rooms meant in the dictionary, It is Pub-lic and for public. Our dear sisters Pub, Alcohol, Panparag with tobacco, Disco, TV serials and Movies, Internet, Western clothing such as Skirt and Blouse, abdomen reveling Sari, and women working with their men colleagues not our Indian culture according to our Indian history which you all must adhere. If we follow Taliban policy India will loose tourism and foreign investment very soon.

Many of the comments blame government, politicians and police and not the pubs with no license and security. These comments reflect hypocracy to some extent becuase none wants their daughters/sisters going to these pubs. They would blamed the police and governement if ruthless Pakistani terrorists had stormed and killed innocent people in these pubs.

'MIGHT IS RIGHT' There cannot be any other answer. High handed Political Meddling is the only reason for this bail. We have noticed on TV Channels how the justice system has failed miserably in granting bail to the Ansals in the Uphaar case!! As one of the victim's mother rightly said that she has "TOTALLY LOST CONFIDENCE IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM after years of struggle, and if any rightful citizen has to win he or she should take law into their own hands"

Its unfortunate that habitual offenders of law are released on bail and the innocent people continue to languish in jails.Peace and normalcy can be restored in the region only if all anti social outfits like Ram Sena, Bajrang Dal etc are banned and these criminals are sent to jail for long. Releasing such criminals on bail can be equated to realising wild animals in an unban area. The administration must keep the society free from such hooligans and the BJP as a mature poltical party must stop depending upon such rowdy outfits for support. One thing is for sure.. had this happened in the west or any European nation these outfits and their political party would've been banned from contesting in elections.

Pub License Cancellation, Pub Culture Debate.....all fine. NOW THE ISSUE IS PHYSICAL ABUSE AND TORTURE. THIS SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY AND FOCUS. PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE SHOULD PAY FOR THE LOSS (PHYSICAL and MENTAL). What we would like to see as citizens, is the proper approach, statements and action from Authorities and even responsible associations. No one checks while entering a pub or hotel whether it has the legal license or proper arrangements. It’s the duty of the system and authorities to ensure that proper auditing is done on regular basis to clear all illegal activities and adherence of Basic infrastructure. And this should be continuous process, not when we have these incidents reported on television or media.

This is the system that we have in our indian constitution. A person can rob/rape/kill someone and the court allows to the culprit to come out with so called 'bail' and allow them or giving another opportunity to commit one more crime. The only solution to this system is the public should such incidents on the spot and punish the culprits.
