Prestigious Delhi Public School Comes to Mangalore

Prestigious Delhi Public School Comes to Mangalore

Media Release

Mangalore, Mar 31: Delhi Public School Society (DPSS) that manages the internationally acclaimed educational institutions the “Delhi Public School” has opened their 132nd branch in Mangalore. Starting with this academic year DPS Mangalore will kick off with revamped curriculum, extracurricular activities and additional focus on imparting of life skills, self development and educational standards in alignment with the best of the schools in India, like DPS Delhi, Doon School etc.

Says Shri Chandrashekara S, the newly appointed Principal of DPS Mangalore, “as an organisation of repute with global recognition, DPSS organises workshops to train and update our teachers with the changes and latest techniques. These Workshops and Seminars will be conducted throughout the year for skill upgradation and competency building. Besides, the teachers will be exposed to national-level exclusive workshops held for DPS’s faculty.”

Briefly summing up the changes in curriculum, Shri Chandrashekara said thus:

“The School will work on trimester system with April to March academic year and will be affiliated to the CBSE.  However this year the academic session will start from 15th April 2009, instead of 1st April 2009 and end by 31st March 2010. DPS Mangalore will close for summer vacation from 1st May 2009. The calendar for the session 2009 - 10 will be made available at the earliest. However Nursery classes will commence only from 1st June ‘09. The syllabi for various classes will be designed according to the examination system and shared at the start of the session. As far as examinations go, Class IX and XI will have cycle tests, half yearly exam and annual examination, while Class X and XII will have Cycle tests, half yearly exam and two Pre Final examinations. First Pre Final will be held before School closes for winter break in the month of December and 2nd Pre Final will be held in the month of January. However the Pre Primary, Primary and Middle Sections will follow a different pattern. Admission will be subject to vacancy and through written test followed by interview for which both the parents have to appear along with the ward.”

The new management is mulling adding Class – XI from the new academic year 2009-10 in the science stream and on war footing necessary infrastructure and other requirements are being processed.

DPS Mangalore’s fee structure will be in line with the DPSS’s system followed in the rest of the country including Bangalore, Karnataka. But owing to intervention from the previous management of the school the MRPL School Trust, the existing students will only have to abide by the fee structure declared in January 2009 in line with the sixth pay structure. “ Delhi Public School has a system of encouraging the deserving students not only through academic awards like Proficiency holders, Scholar Badge, Scholar Gown and Gold medal but also by awarding scholarship to the deserving students, clarified Shri Chandrashekara.  Besides as a one- time measure, the existing students of the school who are economically backward will be given a leg up through scholarships. The appropriate decision in this regard will be taken by the Management committee of the school based on applications from the parents of such deserving students. “Such applications, addressed to the Principal, should be submitted on or before 13th April 2009,” he added.

The Principalof DPS Shri Chandrasekhara carries with him 25years of teaching career at DPS and has more than three decades of experience as a physics teacher. He is credited with the “no-bags-home” initiative which was a thumping success and reduced the book load that children lug back and forth on their frail frames. He has also successfully organised the CBSE East Zone Cluster II Interschool Athletic meet and Table Tennis tournament at DPS, Damanjodi.

DPS Mangalore has come to town owing to the good efforts put in by Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL). Earlier the school was governed by the MRPL Trust and was called MRPL School. Post takeover by DPSS, the school has been rechristened as DPS Mangalore and a new governing body headed by Chairman of DPSS himself has taken over the management of the school.

It is rightly said that education has become a very profitable venture and every one wants to have a bigger slice from the market but we have the choice of not sending our wards to such schools.

DPS is nothing but business where money is flowing in large amount. These people charge in Lacks for admitting kids to LKG/UKG. Parents should think is it worth paying such a large amount of money for learning ABCD... Dont go behind the name.

The opening of DPS in Mangalore does not surprise me since education has become a very profitable venture and every one wants to have a bigger slice from the market. Reputation of the school and facilities will just add more value to the school management and will help the management to increase the fees but this will not ensure your wards performance. We will see more of these institutes in coming days in Mangalore, I will not be surprised if some institute from Europe or US opens it's branch in Mangalore soon.

We welcome DPS in MRPL, at the same time, we would like to highlight that the local students (NON-MRPL) are now compelled to leave the school because their high fee structure, students who were paying 350/month are now have to pay 1500 per month , I request MRPL management to bear this extra fee for local students. Local are not benefitted anything from MRPL as promised while occupying our land. After all MRPL is making money on their land and of course at the cost of their health & environment.
