Mangalore, Apr 9: The Bejai unit of the Catholic Sabha is organizing a record-breaking mega musical event ‘Bejai Baila Show’ (Izai Baila Show), with star performances and events, on Sunday April 12 at Lourdes Central School.

The event will begin at 6 pm on Easter Sunday. Music lovers and all those who wish to perform charity can be a part of it. With this, Bejai Church which is known as the backyard for Konkani musicians, will add another feather in its cap.

Eric Ozario and Gurukiran

“The Baila show is going to be a grand one with variety of performances including dance, music, and others. Everyone who loves music and charity will join in it”, said Fr J P Tauro, parish priest, and spiritual director of Catholic Sabha, Bejai unit.

The Bejai unit of the Catholic Sabha has been actively involved in parish activities from the past 10 years.

”It is not a political organization, but believes in  bringing social, economic, and political awareness among the people to enable them to work with unity for overall development of society”, said Lawrence Pinto, president, Catholic Sabha, Bejai unit.

Peppy songs with young and old artists, entertaining jokes from Nellu’s ‘Khoroz’ team, and dances by the ‘Nach Sobhann’ troupe are the major attractions of the show.

With melodies composed by World Konkani Kala Ratn Eric Ozario, the orchestra will be lead by Roshan D’Souza, Anjelore. Fifty professional artistes of Mandd Sobhann who have found a place for themselves in the Guinness Book of World Records, will also be a part of the show.

Eric and Joyce Ozario, Prakash D’Souza, Felix Lasrado, and Robin Sequeira, will all be part of the extravaganza. The 30-minute non-stop Baila medley by the top ten finalists of ‘Sodh-2’ along with `Sodh-1' winner Ammabelle Moras will be another highlight of the spectacular event.

Adolf Jayathilak of ‘Ye Mana’ fame, guitar maestro Alwyn Fernandes, and popular Kannada cinema music director Gurukiran, will be the guest artistes.

” Though many people reach us help for educational or medical necessities, we have a shortage of funds, so we decided to raise money to help them”, said Melvin Pereira, the chief co-ordinator of the event.

”Motivating the people to unite is the basic concept. We expect a huge crowd to attend this show”, said Lawrence Pinto.

Baila, a popular form of music, is not only popular among the Konkani-speaking people of India, but is also very popular in countries like Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Brazil. It is equally enjoyed by Kannada and Telugu music lovers.

I totally agree with you jawahar that organisers of this event have made other people think that there is no talent in Bejai today after Mic max and benette pinto have departed which is a big mistake from their end which is very sad. We miss Late Fr. Kasmir Dsa, Fr. Godfrey Saldhana, late Fr, Bernard today who had vision and knew where and how in Bejai to tap the talent of bejai parishners. jai ho bejai. which is sad.

I certainly agree with you Russel and Helen. It is sad that a great Parish with tremendous talents is ignoring the inhouse strengths and depends on aliens to raise funds. Are we lacking talented organisers?!!!

It is really suprising that 2 great events are taking place at the same time in Mangalore and that too organized by the same parish. Something smells fishy between the organizers of these both events. Both of these are great events and it's sad people have to choose between these two. I do hope this does not repeat. sad day for konkani music lovers.

It is a pity that Bejai being a talented parish has to bring outsiders.I am sure Baila show is not organised by the Bejai parish lovers but a few who members of the Sabha who are rodents in the bejai parish. This has really waken up the paradelas who had gone in search of greener pastures and are coming together back on the same day with their 10th Paradela nite at St.agnes ground. Wish you success paradelas.

Surprised. Why does Bijai which is considered to be the backyard of Konkani Musicians need Musicians and singers from outside Bijai to entertain the Bijai crowd?
