Mumbai, May 27: N Chandrasekaran, COO and executive director, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has been appointed CEO designate, while CEO and MD S Ramadorai has been given a two-month extension up to October 5, 2009.
The TCS board of directors on Tuesday re-appointed Ramadorai as CEO and MD for two more months from August 2009 to October 5, 2009, subject to shareholders' approval.
Ramadorai was appointed CEO and MD for a five-year term, starting August 2004, which ends in August, 2009. He is, however, being given an extension as, under the Tata group's retirement policy executive directors retire at the age of 65 years. Ramadorai turns 65 on October 5, 2009.
TCS went public in August 2004. According to regulations, an MD is appointed for a period of 4-5 years and thus Ramadorai's term was to have ended in August 2009.
The board of directors have named Chandrasekaran, CEO and executive director, as CEO designate, with the intention that he would be appointed CEO and MD of the company with effect from October 06, 2009, on the retirement of Ramadorai.
