Jaitley Quits as BJP Gen Secretary, to Skip National Meet

Rediff

New Delhi, Jun 16: Arun Jaitley, leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, has decided to quit as general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Before leaving for London, Jaitley had written to party president Rajnath Singh, informing him that the resignation was to keep alive the tradition of one person-one post.

Though it is a technical resignation, it assumes significance as Jaitley also intends to skip the BJP's national executive committee meeting to be held in New Delhi from June 20.

Jaitley's resignation comes on the heels of former external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha's resignation from all party posts following the party's dismal performance in the recently concluded general elections.

On Monday, Sushma Swaraj had termed the situation in the BJP as 'volcanic'.

Mr Jaitley was one of the moderates and articulate leaders of BJP, who was practical and genuine, unlike the orthodox and head saving Mrs Swaraj or the utter corrupt late Mr Mahajan.

On the contrary Mr. Anurag, I think BJP lost *because* of their hindutva ideology. Infact, BJP''s insistence on sticking to this ideology may just lead to them becoming almost obsolete in the coming years. As the percentage of EDUCATED youth among the voting public increases, we will probably see smaller, secular parties coming into prominence.

Looks like Mr. Anurag, Pilibhit is out of his mind. His opinion is totally senseless and does not have any justification. Just of the sake of commenting he has expressed his opinion. Let him not waste his and others time by writing something irrelavent as this.

There are to many worries going on who can lead or not,Keep all people oneside give opportunity to Narendra Modi...and he will deliver the results..According to me BJP LOST IN 2004 AND 2009 IS because they are out of their main agenda Hindutva and they are trying to be moderate......BJP has to remember one thing Muslims of India are never going to Going to vote bcoz of the babri majid act....so they have to understand and clear their thoughts.and I think that in this time of terrorism we need tough leaders like narendra modi to lead the country not like congress Govt. who bcoz of there muslim votebank are not punishing Afzal Guru and ajmal kasab....i think there will be a day when muslims in india treat india as there country and will celebrate when india win against pakistan .
