Lucknow, Jun 30: A youth in an Uttar Pradesh village killed his 15-year-old sister after the girl turned down a marriage proposal, citing that she was not physically and mentally prepared for the marriage, police said Monday.

Rajaram, an 18-year-old resident of Dalpur village in Sitapur district, attacked his sister with a sickle late Sunday after she refused to marry a youth of the same village, Superintendent of Police Pritender Singh told reporters.

Rajaram, who fled the scene after killing his sister, was caught Monday, the official said.

Sitapur is about 80 km from Lucknow.

According to the police, Rajaram, the sole bread-winner of his family, wanted his sister to marry a 25-year-old youth of the village who had promised to assist him financially and help him get a permanent job.

When the girl refused to accept the marriage proposal despite Rajaram's repeated pleas, he attacked her with a sickle, killing her on the spot, police said.

The maximum punishment should be given to devil Rajaram who killed his own sister for his selfishness. If authorites fail to give him hard punishment then such crmimes will be common in India in the near future.
