Kundapur, Oct 4: In spite of various measures undertaken by the police and other authorities, theft of cattle has been rampant in coastal districts of Karnataka. A few days back, an incident in which miscreants had forcibly taken away a cow loitering by the roadside from Neralakatte near here had been captured by CCTV camera. Even though the police had registered this case, there has been no progress in the investigation.

Now, a similar incident has happened again at Ampar in the taluk. The theft has been recorded in the CCTV camera installed in a petrol bunk there.

Screengrab from CCTV footage

A car came to a stop at the said petrol bunk at Ampar during late night hours on Thursday October 3. A cow living by the roadside was lying down on the ground at the petrol bunk. The camera has recorded the people who came in the car forcibly stuffing the cow into the car. As soon as the car moved ahead, a lorry reached there and stopped on the road. The car went one round and moved behind the truck, as per the recording in the CCTV camera.

It looks as if the cow would have been loaded onto the truck from behind. A local, Prasannakumar, has filed a complaint stating that his cow has been stolen, based on which Shankarnarayana police have registered a case. Investigation has been launched.

The owner of the cow also has to be blamed equally. Why they are letting their cattle out in the night despite knowing that there are cattle thiefs around?

Your are correct. But you have to understand the grave situation of cow keeping at rural villages. Without cows, NO agriculture. Nobody take interest in agriculture as youngsters run away to cities. The old age people and those who are running the family have no energy to look after cows. It is difficult. But they need cows. It is not that they personally leave cows as they wish. It was a practice from centuries that allowing cows to go wander. Many cows return back to huts once sun sinks. Sometimes they won't return back. Some people search for their cows in late night also. The families only with ladies can't go for searching at night... So, you may understand it better now.

The beef eaters were there earlier also... But they have ethics. They didn't go against the morality of the land. We accepted Muslims and we lived with them happily.

you don't have a single word against these thieve, instead you try to find out faults of cow owner & it indirectly support the thieves. one more thing I would like to bring to your notice that these thieve never hesitate to steal the cow from poor farmers hut also. we have read the news that these cow thieves forcibly stolen the cows from hut by showing machetes to the owner. finally we should agree that thieves are thieves only they don't have any moral.
