Mangalore: Navaras Dance Troupe Launched at Kadri Temple
Media Release
Mangalore, Sep 14 : It was perhaps a rarest of the rare occasion when one could hear the recitation of Bang (Muslim prayer) from the premises of a temple and a Church built there in. It was India coming together with a glimpse of reverberating folk dances from across the country. It was a union of tiny tots and elderly from different religion, caste and communities in a single stage. That was the colourful launch of Navaras, a dance troupe in the city, which gave its maiden performance at the Kadri Temple in Mangalore on Saturday on the occasion of the Mosaru Kudike celebrations as part of the Krishna Janmashtami festivities.
The two-hour programme that comprised of numerous sequences of dance ballets, folk dances, skits and more, enthralled the packed audience glued to their chairs till the very end.
The programme began with the launch of Navaras in a very unique manner with tiny tots, some in the guise of Krishna lit the lamp and worshiped Nataraja, the Lord of Bharatanatyam.
The Shiva Dance followed by the sequel ballet of Krishna Leela (the different stages of life of Krishna) was captivating. The folk dances taking through the richness of our nation’s cultural treasure, right from Malayalam, Rajastani, Marati, Goan Baila, Karnataka’s Suggi, Tuluva lifestyle and others took the crowd swaying to an altogether different world of celebrating the spirit of life. The pinch of humour, patriotic sentiments and portrayal of the cultural treats of the Coastal Karnataka (Karavali) blended together to provide ultimate wholesome entertainment.
According to Director of Navaras, Mangalore, Sachitha Nandagopal, the troupe is basically for hobby dancers and provides a platform for anyone interested to perform.
Navaras will conduct dance classes for children, housewives and employees in separate batches, focusing mainly on semi-classical and folk with a base of Bharatanatyam. ``We would welcome anyone interested to dance to join us whenever we have any programmes on our way.’’ Further, one can sweat it out and burn their calories and also relieve themselves of stress through the medium of dance, she added as she thanked each one concerned for making the troupe’s launch a grand success.
The programe at Kadri was performed under the auspices of Sri Krishna Janmashtami Samiti.
