Mangaluru: Shocking - Cartel using girl students as drug carriers

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jan 6: Despite undertaking regular awareness drives and strict action being initiated against consumption of drugs, drug peddlers and drugs mafia by the government, police and NGO’s, cases of drugs abuse and drugs peddling continues to occupy top slot in the crime world of the city. In view of strict action being taken by the city police against the drugs trade, the drug mafia has been trying to find new ways to expand its business and attract more youngsters towards drugs addiction. According to sources, the latest trend started by the drug mafia is using the services of girl students for increasing their business.

By using girl students, the drugs mafia aims to easily carry drug products throughout the city and especially the campuses of educational institutions. The mafia believes that girls can become easy carriers for their products because most of times they are exempted from regular checking and legal proceedings. Secondly they also aim at the sexual exploitation of the girls once they become carriers and regular users of their products.

Pradhanya (name changed) studies in a reputed college in the city. A few weeks back, she suddenly started to vomit continuously and her parents took her to the hospital. After conducting examination of her health, the doctor told her parents that she was pregnant. Through detailed enquiries, the parents learnt that a few months back the girl had attended the birthday party of one of her friends. It was a late night party and she was compelled to stay there with other friends both boys and girls. When the party was on, some of her friends had forced her to have a mocktail drink and after drinking she began to feel drowsy. When she was unconscious, some of her boyfriends, sexually exploited her. She was not in a position to judge that the drug mafia had entered that birthday party through her friends. This is a new trick of the drug mafia. They indirectly use the birthday parties, success parties, bachelor parties etc for spreading their trade. No parents or students are aware of this development.

“The incidents of trapping girl students in the pretext of love or friendship has been increasing day by day. It is usually too late when they realize their folly of getting trapped in the hands of drug mafia. Later these girls get new offers from the mafia and they become the carriers of drugs. They then begin to trap friends in the same way they were trapped. For attracting the new students, they are given ideas like sexual exploitation of innocent girls in the parties and private events,” says Dhanajay Nayak, who is a faculty in a reputed educational institution in city.

Sources also revealed that the drug mafia also takes the girl students to Goa and Bengaluru in the name of ‘happiness tours’. When returning from tours they carry their stuff without creating any doubt in the minds of police and narcotic cell officials. Many a time, the girls are not frisked in the name of shortage of lady police officers. It is also learnt that during these happiness tours, the girls are sexually exploited but no one is accepting this fact openly with the fear of parents and knowing fully well of its devastating consequences on their future. The drug mafia targets girl students from outside the district who stay in hostels in the city. Most of happiness tours are conducted by friends of girls who are out of their colleges.

“Nowadays the incidents of suicidal tendency has increased among the students. Especially the investigation on the suicides by girl students point towards failed love affair or study pressure. No one shows interest to investigate beyond this point. No one takes interest to keep an eye on suspicious moves of friends, or lovers of the girls who lost her lives. In the case of boys also similar thing is happening. Majority of parents believe that their children will never get connected with the drug mafia or they will not be exploited without the knowledge of parents at night parties. Drug cartel has been deriving benefit out of this tendency of the parents and using these parties effectively for their business,” says a social worker who want to remain anonymous.

The volunteers of Link De-Addiction and Counselling center, Mangaluru, which is one of the leading de addiction centers, says “In our general survey we came to know that in Mangaluru out of 100 students 16 to 20 are using some kind of drugs or related items . It is right that nowadays drug mafia mainly concentrates on night parties arranged by students and their close friends. One or two of them maintain links with drug mafia very secretly and they always take lead for arranging such parties. At the same time, it is gathered that there is one drug available in the form of tablet which can be used in any colour drinks especially in juice and mocktails. Once a person drinks it he or she will become unconscious for two hours. Even he or she fail to come to know if someone is engaging them in sexual activity. The second thing is once the person becomes normal the next day he or she do not remember that what they did during the said two hours, where they were, and what happened during those particular hours. This drug completely erases the memory power of the concerned for a period of two hours after consumption. “

“We are conducting regular counselling for our students. Whenever we come to know about any of the students using drugs we inform their parents and guardians. But majority of parents are not ready to accept the fact that their children consume drugs. In the case of girl students we are taking extra care and taking separate classes for them about drug mafia and their sexual exploitation. But after college we can’t track them where they go and what they do. Parents should be aware of it and monitor their children. It is true that girl students are sexually exploited at night parties which conclude in the wee hours,” says a professor who wanted to remain unidentified.

Police personnel have been continuously chasing the drug mafia and drug peddlers. To escape from police and attract more youths towards drugs use, drug mafia has been inventing new ways with innovative ideas. It is time for the parents and the educational institutions to remain focussed and alert. Same time the students themselves should be aware of how drug mafia could be trapping them.

College students are increasingly becoming victims of drug paddlers and human traffickers. During seminars in colleges, giving mere awareness of these dangers is not sufficient, but students should be informed about the 'modus operandi' of these criminals, so that they can identify the danger signals among those they interact with. During extra-curricular activities students should also be trained to overcome peer pressure from other students who distract them from their goal. However, when colleges themselves invite DJ's for dances, they are innocuously grooming future clients for pubs and concerts, which are frequented by criminals looking for victims and recruiting agents. Lastly, while informing female students of women's rights, they should also be cautioned about harmful circumstances and dangerous situations and thus protect themselves from being easy targets for criminals who do not respect any human rights. As the saying goes "Fools dare where Angels fear to tread".

These paan beedi shops are main suppliers of drugs to students. You could see some bike riders who always communicate with these shops are the middleman who supply drugs. Some time I wonder even Paani puri walas also selling drugs and also must be mixing with paani so that students get addicted. You see always pani puri walas are getting crowded. Police should keep close watch on them

Drug peddling and mafia has been a big racket in the country long ago. In this regard the students need to be given regular awareness in the institution regarding the drug issues. When the possibility of supply to others not possible the drug peddlers use various possibilities. Now Mangalore has come to aware of using girls as means to carry such drug it is earlier the better to bring the awareness and identify the persons and give then helping hand. The police is doing a good job by raids and checks, the parents also must keep a close eye on the younger generation. It is not policing but concern mind.

Parents are responsible. They allow children to go for overnight parties. Some " forward " parents even drop them at the venue. Rave parties and other overnight parties should be banned. If parents at home and teachers and school management at Schools and colleges have strict vigilance and guidance to the children you don't need the narcotic bureau to control drug abuse.

Its not right to blame students. They are trapped and exploited. Hardly a hand full of people like to take drugs and become addicted and others are trapped without even knowing. Need of the hour is de addiction centers and elimination of Drug Mafia. Its a chill in the spill just imagine it can be anyone's child. We always think my child is safe. We never know when they can fall victim of that one tablet.

Authorities should think what if their children are one of the victim. Mangalore and Udupi can be easily disconnected now before its too late.

Not blaming anybody. Parents and elders are repeatedly telling students (especilaly girls) not to go any party which was till late night. By telling we are free birds, we have liberty to go anywhere girls are moving around with their wish. Because of this such incidents will happen. Very tragedy.

If by chance they are given death sentence, our weak legal system is allowing them to go free. Our lawyers are ready to prove they are innocent. if their wish is not fulfilled by the judge, there are human right team.

Also, our police are so cleverly involved in this system. They only catch the people, when their needs are not fulfilled. most of the days they are busy in providing security for our corrupt politicians.

If a honest citizen try to complain against the drug dealer, police disclose their names

It is unfortunate that more of educated students are falling into drug menace.

Some students misuse the trust reposed by parents and fall into this racket. They forget their responsibility and get misled by some antisocial elements.

Mangaluru and Manipal are becoming infamous because of drug usage among students.

what manner of education and upbringing that these kids cannot see right from wrong? even if caught, they should have the courage to come clean with their parents so that life does not become a tragedy. Parents who lead their children into believing that making money and having fun are the 'be all and end-all' are more to blame than the kids. If the cops know who the cartel consists of, why are they not taken into custody? -

Thank you daijiworld for very informative article.
This is high time both parents and college management to work hand in hand to curb these evil deeds.
Please stop sending children for the party of friends classmates whatever. This is the prime location where devil enters from the backdoor.
Teach every boy to respect the girl. She is not an object.
    Modesty in dressing is important.
Keep away from those who show off in the college, spending more, bunks more.Trap may be ahead from such individuals.
Parents please spare time with your children specially when they reach puberty. They may make you irritated. Please be patient. This is quiet normal. They will definitely like you after few years. The whole information they get from friends, mobile, movies put them into confusion.Train them to say "no" in many situations if they have to say so.
Addiction starts with a sip of wine on any casual party.Further a lot of fun filled party with loud music around on the dance floor, then slowly switching to mild beer with a cheer of a friend, then to vodka, and it will be on and on.......Finally a jolly group will be formed for regular partying and then enters all evils.
As a parent we have to be vigilant because wolf is already among the sheep.

Yes parents have to be vigilant. No sleepovers at friends place when they go out for late night parties. You don't get to know in what condition your child was at that sleepover. It may be troublesome for you, but please collect your own child after a late night party n drop her/his hostel friends too. Boys who are their friends are too young to take care of drunk girls even if they are friends. Unsocial characters are also waiting to take advantage of such situations.

Sir. It is very difficult to handle this type of boys and girls at home. Here the parents will come to know only when their children caught or suffering from drug. Only way is check blood test at all institutions in our District. Automatically we can identify and take action. If they start this, then it will be problems for Colleges for administration.
