Manipal University Ties up with Disney and California Varsity

Manipal, Sep 27: Befitting the World Tourism Celebrations – The Manipal University and University of California at Riverside (UCR) along with Disney World, USA have entered an agreement to provide six-month paid internships at Disneyworld in Florida, USA for the third year students of Manipal University’s WelcomGroup School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA).
The students, who will also attend classes and get credits for the courses they take, will be awarded a Certificate in International Hospitality and Tourism by the University of California, Riverside, USA.
Ms Yvette Noethen from Disney International Programs, Zaid Ghori from UCR, Dr Vinod Bhat from Manipal University and Prof YG Tharakan from WGSHA, Manipal were present at the signing of the MoU.
The Manipal students would be spending six months working in the Kitchens and Hotel Management sections of the various theme parks, Hotels, Restaurants and resorts at world famous Walt Disney World in Florida.
Speaking on sidelines of the World Tourism Day celebrations at WGSHA, Dr Vinod Bhat the Registrar of the International Programs at Manipal University told Daijiworld that this program is one of its kind, as along with work experience at Disney, the students also study aspects of international tourism and hospitality at the University of California. This equips the students with a global perspective and helps broaden their horizons other than strengthening their CVs, he said.
