Mangalore, Oct 1:
World Elders Day was celebrated at 'Vishwas,' an organization that has been rendering yeoman's service towards the welfare and well-being of senior citizens in the city, on Thursday October 1.

Lizzie Pereira was the chief guest of a function organized in this connection. Addressing the elderly, she suggested to them, to improvise their lifestyles, forgetting about the age factor, to make their lives enjoyable. Taking active part in various activities and games that make the mind work, improve the capability of the elderly citizens to maintain a peaceful mind and live life without any tensions. The senior citizens should never worry about their age, and on the other hand, they should make their lives fruitful by engaging in creative activities, she added.

The programme was followed by games based on singing, skits by the members of the Home and also by the students of social work colleges in the city.

Along with the inmates of the Home, about 80 senior citizens were present at the programme. Yoga trainer and senior citizen, H N Narasimha was the compere of the programme.  B Ananth, member of Valencia Day Centre, welcomed the gathering and extended best wishes to all the elderly people on the occasion of the World Elders Day.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Trapthi, a MSW student placed at Vishwas Agency. Secretary of the Home, Felcy Pinto and Sr Olida Pereira of Roshni Nilaya, apart from some others, were present.

Oh dear children of aged parents, an emotional appeal to all of you. Please dont forsake the parents. If you do you have forsaken God and you have forsaken the blessings and mercy of your Lord. What you are today is just because of your parents. Dont feel proud of yourself but feel proud of your parents who have made you what you are today. Be thankful to them and say a big thank you to them when you visit them next. Now they are old and feeble and are on the last leg of their life, please try your best to keep them happy and contended. They need your love and support. Dont throw them in to old age homes. Keep them in your house and look after them as you look after your own wife and kids. Give them what is due to them. In this age they are no lesser than your kids. They are God's trust with you. God is watching very closely how you are handling His trust. If your parents are happy with you surely God is happy with you. YOur children too will follow the suit and will look after you and love you. If you dont look after and love your parents, then please dont expect your children to love and look after you. Its not your fundamental right. Children watch you how you treat your parents and they shall have a clear impression. God shall not curse that house whose parents are living in it. May God bless you all.

WELL DONE DAIJI WORLD BY BRINGING OUT SUCH A BEAUTIFUL EVENT ''CELEBRATING WORLD ELDERS DAY'' BY SEEING THIS EVENT THERE ARE SO MANY MEMORIES HIDDEN SPECIALLY OF PARENTS ABANDONED BY CHILDREN AND LEFT UNDER SOME ONE TO TAKE CARE WHEN THEIR CHILDREN ARE TOO BUSY WITH THEIR WORK. MAY THE LORD ALMIGHTY BLESS YOU ALL AND SPECIALLY I PRAY FOR THE ORGANISERS OF SUCH AN EVENT AND I WOULD BE THE ONE TO SUPPORT SUCH EVENTS EVERY YEAR ON THIS DAY.
