Mangalore: Shobha Rani Secures PhD in Women’s Studies

Mangalore, Oct 20:Shobha Rani, who is currently working as a lecturer in mental health at the University of Dublin, Trinity College, Ireland, completed her PhD in women’s studies in January 2009, under the guidance of Prof Jayashree, dean in the department of women’s studies, S P Women’s University, Tirupati.



Shboha Rani was recently awarded the doctor of philosophy degree by the S P Women’s University, Tirupati. The title of her thesis was ‘Physical and Psychosocial Problems of Menopausal women: A study on Working Women in Karnataka’.

She has presented several scientific papers at international conferences in Canada, Scotland, Ireland and India. Shobha Rani pioneered the development of a multidisciplinary training programme on ‘dual diagnosis treatment group programmes,’ and also has been a research expert on one of the national projects commissioned by Mental Health Commission, Ireland.

She was a gold medalist in BSc Nursing and had secured second rank in MSc Nursing. She also has to her credit, a masters degree in psychology, a higher diploma in nursing studies (education) from the University College Dublin and a Certificate in Forensic Nursing from Royal College of Surgeon’s in Ireland. She is an alumnus of Dr M V Shetty Institute of Health Sciences, S V Higher Primary School, Gangolli and S V Pre-University College, Gangolli.
