Mangalore, Oct 31 (DHNS): Alva’s Education Foundation has adopted flood affected village of Bhopalapoora in Rona taluk of Gadag district, said Alva’s Education Foundation President Dr M Mohan Alva. 

 
Addressing a press meet on Friday, he said the village will be rebuilt at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore. The houses which have been damaged fully will be rebuilt, partially damaged houses will be repaired.

He said 45 pumpsets in the village have been damaged in the floods. As many as 10 pumpsets have already been repaired. Remaining 35 will be repaired soon. The Foundation has purchased three acres land in the village. About 25 houses will be constructed on it and will be handed over to those who have lost their houses completely to the nature’s fury.
Dr Alva said: “The village has about 220 houses. The foundation will give priority to supply drinking water, construction of grama chavadi, medical camps. About 10 toilets will be constructed in the first phase.”

“During the survey, we found that the villagers had not given priority to cleanliness. The entire village had only two toilets. The school in the village has been adopted by the Foundation. Two pairs of uniforms and a shoe has been distributed among 110 students.”
During the village survey, we found that five students have entered the portals of the college in the village. The Foundation will provide free education to five students from the village. They include BEd—2, DEd—1 and Nursing—1.

The village will be developed into a model village in the near future. Alva’s College students have already visited the village and have undertaken cleanliness drive.
