Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Nov 2: The collegium of the Supreme Court Judges, headed by the Supreme Court Chief Justice, has requested the union government to go ahead with the elevation of four out of the five High Court judges it had earlier nominated for being elevated to the apex court. It has requested the government to put on hold, the elevation of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice, P D Dinakaran, till the investigations into the allegations against him are completed. This information was given to the reporters by the Chief Justice of India, K G Balakrishnan, on Sunday November 1.

With this, decks have been cleared for the elevation of Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice, A K Patnaik, Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice, Teerath Singh Thakur, Kolkota High court Chief Justice, S N Bijjar and Gujarat High Court Chief Justice, K S Radhakrishna to Supreme Court.

It may be recalled that allegations were levelled against Justice P D Dinakaran, and demands were made to delete his name from the list prepared by the collegium, as soon as the collegium had brought out a list of five judges it wanted to elevate to the apex court.  Justice Dinakaran however, has been steadfastly denying the allegations levelled against him.

The Collegium establishes that prima facie there is evidence against Justice Dinakaran. He should have been therefore asked to stay away from the court room. It is not fair to the people of Karnataka that they are to plead before this man who is a potential thief.
