Mangaluru, May 15: In the past, concerns were raised over the lack of theatres available for Tulu movies. As time went, more and more Tulu language movies were released, but the number of screens available remained minimal. The limited release cripples the fate of some of the producers at having their cash registry filled.
Senior directors of the Tulu industry have believed that the discriminatory attitude of multiplexes has been a cause for the lack of theatres.
However, it was a thing of the past, given the pandemic situation prevailing it very likely that for a long time the fate of movies in theatres will remain questionable. There could very well be a drop in the number of people choosing to watch movies on the big screen. As the movie screens do not technically have social distancing norms in place and the fact they operate in air-conditioned halls.
With these hurdles, the already limited audience for Tulu movies could witness a further decline. Now, it would be up to the makers in the industry to consider streaming platforms and check their feasibility to keep their businesses going. In addition to this, there have been several makers who have claimed that directing and producing movies would get tougher as cast and staff would think twice before performing roles which would require working in proximity.
But, in the end, it would boil down to the fact, that the pandemic will likely be a prolonged situation, something everyone would have to learn to live with. Therefore, it would depend on the producers, directors and actors to devise a suitable plan for their sustenance.
