Mangalore: City Bids Adieu to Varsity Former VC Kaveriappa

Mangalore, Jan 24: Former vice chancellor of Mangalore University prof K M Kaveriappa and his wife Brinda were felicitated by the Civic Reception Committee of Mangalore at Town Hall here on Saturday, January 23. After 30 years of service in the varsity, prof Kaveriappa retired from his post in December 2009.

The speakers at the ceremony were all praise for Kaveriappa. They appreciated his contributions to the field of higher education.  

Nitte University vice chancellor Dr M Shantharam Shetty said that by honouring prof Kaveriappa the people of Mangalore are respecting the growth of higher education system in the region, and the values left behind by him as an able teacher, administrator, organizer and a human being. He can aptly be termed as a vice-chancellor of the people”, said Dr Shetty. 































 

Inspector general of police (Western Range) B Gopal Hosur said that prof Kaveriappa was never into any controversies though he was holding a top position. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel compared prof Kaveriappa to river Cauvery and its glory.
 
Mayor M Shankar Bhat recollected the developmental works in Mangalagangothri during Kaveriappa’s term as VC. Speaking about the students’ protest going on at the varsity, he appealed the concerned authorities to find a solution to the problem at the earliest and provide justice to the students.

In-charge vice chancellor prof K K Acharya, the programme convenors P Dayanand Pai, K Thejomaya, P V Mohan, UltraTech senior vice-president Ramachandra, registrar prof K Chinnappa Gowda and Mangalore MLA U T Khader among others were present.
