Mangalore: Stoning of Mosques, Yateemkhana Linked to Bajrang Dal Split
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)
Mangalore, Feb 2: The Ullal policemen have found out that the activists of Bajrang Dal were involved with the incident of pelting stones at two mosques in Kumpala near here and a Yateemkhana (orphanage). It is also learnt that the stoning incident was a fall out of an internal squabble within the Dal.
Reportedly, two factions owing allegiance to Vijaya Prakash, a Bajrang Dal leader in Kumpala, and Sumesh, advocate and another Bajrang Dal leader, had a long-standing enmity against each other. Vijaya Prakash had planned to part ways with the Dal and start the local unit of Hindu Jagaran Vedike on Sunday January 31, while the faction headed by Sumesh wanted to spoil the inaugural.
It is learnt, that Bajrang Dal activists, Sandeep and Tarun, thought that prohibitory orders would be issued if stones are pelted at the mosques. Through this act, they wanted to stop the Bajrang Dal unit from splitting into two. In spite of their efforts, Hindu Jagaran Vedike was inaugurated, but prohibitory orders were also issued. While the Muslim leaders complained against Vijaya Prakash and one of his associates named Ganesh, the policemen saw through the plan and found out the real culprits.
The Ullal policemen have arrested Sandeep (21), living in Kumpala Ashraya Colony who works as a labourer, and Tarun (21), a carpenter by profession. It is said that the two consumed liquor at a bar in Tokkottu at night, attended a Bhoota Kola organized in Kumpala and then pelted stones at the mosques and Yateemkhana at about 2.15 am on Sunday January 31.
The arrests were made by Ullal sub inspector, Nagaraj and crime branch sub inspector, Shyamsundar.
