Bangalore/Puttur: Rally, Public Meet Held to Oppose Anti-Cow Slaughter Law

Bangalore, Feb 24: Popular Front of India (PFI) and Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike organized a state-level protest rally near Government Arts College here against proposed ban on cow slaughter on Wednesday February 24.
The rally that began from the college at 11.00 am concluded at Bannappa Park. The protest criticized the move to bring in anti-cow slaughter law in the state thereby depriving section of the society that consumes the meat as the staple diet. The move is also a blow to businessmen, who are dealing with beef.
The organizations such as Tipu United Front, Karnataka Beef Merchants’ Association, Stephen’s Square Merchant’s Association, Social Democratic Party of India, Praja Vimochana Chaluvali, Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti and Samata Sainik Dal joined in the protest.
Dalit-Muslim-Christian Forums Oppose the Ban at Puttur
Earlier, on Tuesday February 23, public meeting after the protest rally opposing the proposed anti-cow slaughter law under the leadership of Dalit-Muslim-Christian forums was held at Kille Maidan in Puttur.
Addressing the gathering, Sreedhar Kalaveer, the general secretary of the BSP state unit alleged that the members of Sangh Parivar were trying to divide united India. He said that instead of encouraging a scientific thinking in the competitive world these are trying to develop superstious beliefs among poor people and are trying to instill communal violence.
“Sangh Parivar is not a permanent body and so is BJP. It is impossible to destroy the feeling of oneness among Indians which was there from ages”, he added. “There is no need to bring out any new law which is beyond understanding. Let people concentrate on education, development of nation, and protection of fundamental rights”, he insisted. He also advised people to be careful about organizations like Sangh Parivar which is trying to destroy the harmony among people of various communities.
Addressing the gathering William Martis from Bolkunje Church said that Dalits are the aborigines and we all are Indians but some people are trying to rewrite the history and create disturbance in the country which needs to be prevented.
PSI district president Hyder Neerpal presided over the meeting. He said that if the state government does not withdraw the proposal of anti cow slaughter intense protest will be held. Muslim Jagrati Vedike district president, M S Mohammad, SYS state president S B Mohammad and Popular Front of India’s national chief secretary K M Sharif also spoke at the meeting.
