Moily to take up State Railway Issues
New Delhi, Feb 28 (DHNS): Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily on Saturday said he would take up the long pending-demand of extending Bangalore-Mangalore day train up to Karwar via Udupi with Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee soon.
Speaking to newsmen here, Moily said though he had requested the Railway Minister for extending the Bangalore-Mangalore train to Goa and introducing a new train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal (CST), Mumbai to Mangalore, it was not included in the budget.
“As these two trains are long pending demands from people from coastal area, I would again pursue the matter with the Railway Minister”, he said.
Thanking the Railway Minister for including most of his requests in the Railway Budget, the Minister said this year the Karnataka has received maximum number of projects. To expedite them, the state government should take all steps to release funds at the earliest as per the cost sharing agreement between the Ministry of Railway and Karnataka government.
Reacting to the Union Budget, Moily said it was most forward looking with a focus on long term goals and not just looking at short term gains. Defending the hike in oil prices he said this was required in the interest to better health of oil companies as well as to improve the fiscal consolidation.
Increase of agriculture sector outlay by 25 per cent and establishment of 60,000 pulse and oil seeds villages will fuel a second green revolution in the country to overcome shortage of foodgrain, he said.
