Bangalore: Revenue Collection May Fall Short by Rs. 10,000 Crore: Congress

Bangalore, Mar 5: The Congress on Thursday alleged that the State Government had failed to deliver promises it made on all fronts and demanded its resignation.

Speaking on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address in the Legislative Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah said several departments spent only 40 per cent of the budgetary allocations till December end and the Government would fall short in revenue collection by at least Rs. 10,000 crore in the current fiscal year. The State's outstanding debt stood at 29 per cent of the State GDP, which was an unhealthy indicator for fiscal consolidation, he claimed. There was no governance in the State and law and order situation deteriorated. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who does not enjoy the full confidence of BJP legislators, was busy sorting out differences among the party leaders.

The Government had failed to respond to the grievances of flood-affected people of north Karnataka and not a single house had been built for the families who had lost houses.

Acute power crisis, drinking water scarcity, lack of commitment among Ministers for implementation of schemes clearly indicated bad governance.

The Chief Minister, who took oath in the name of farmers, had not met the demands of sugarcane growers. Protests by the farming community against acquisition of the fertile lands was a common factor across the State. With protests against the Government becoming a routine affair, the Government had no moral right to continue in office, he claimed.

The Congress leader also opposed the Government's decision to hand over about 80 acres of land belonging to the Kannada University in Hampi to Vijayanagar Revival Trust to develop a theme park.
