Cow Slaughter Ban Bill Passed in Karnataka Assembly

Cow Slaughter Ban Bill Passed in Karnataka Assembly

Bangalore, Mar 20 (PTI) : Amid uproarious scenes, Karnataka Assembly today passed the controversial cow slaughter ban Bill, which provides for stringent punishment for violaters and makes the offence cognisable and non-bailable.

After more than a four-hour debate, the Bill was passed by voice-vote as the entire opposition -- Congress and JDS -- trooped into the well of the House and shouted anti-government slogans, branding the BJP government "communal".

Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah, who termed the legislation "draconian", "anti-secular" and "unconstitutional" tore a copy of the the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2010 -- and threw it in the air.

Earlier, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa defended the Bill, saying it was aimed at protecting cows and preserve cattle in Karnataka. A number of states, including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and Jammu and Kashmir, already had similar legislation, he added.

    Mr Yediyurappa,

You can give one cow each to a household, like you give bicycle to students.

Congress gave land (Land Reform Act)to tenants in 1974, and remained in power till 1983.

If you give cow to each family , may be you can remain in power till 2020.

If somebody eats your cow, I think, its prudent in your part to behave as if nothing has happened.

    Good luck!!!

Cow and water buffalo are poor
    people's income sources. They make
a living by selling the precious
milk, and finally sell them and
    keeping the business of mere
    survival.

    Now the new anti-cow slaughter
will put a lot of poor people into
serious financail misery. Politicians are trying to please
their God by putting poor people
    into misery. What kind of
    worship is that?

I wonder who are supporting the bill except the ones that are illiterate and power hungry. Are we being ruled by such a weak team that thinks that a beef ban will improve anything except that a minority will lose a right to chose what they should eat? it is time to step up and think of the bigger picture. India is supposed to be the next big thing compared to China. We all know we are definitely better than China. Let's move on and support who can take us forward and not backwards with silly bills like beef ban. Come on!! We responsible for the government we chose. I am sure my Hindu friends agree with me.

You are in Dubai where beef is freely availbale and thousands of cows are slaughtered. You dont have problem in that as you are earning your bread there to support your family. If you are asking for support to this bill, you should be a role model first. Please pack up and come back to India and start seeking support to this bill. Dont be a hypocrite. This bill is politically motivated and not for the protection or welfare of cows, but to please one section and to slaughter another section of our population. I challenge, this bill will not see the light of the day and shall remain as a bill and it will not become a law. Please wait and watch my friend.

The cost of Milk Products in all our neighbour states are higher compared to Karnataka. Why ? Increase in number of slaughter houses has resulted in decline in population cows. Result is less & less milk productions or production of milk doesn't go up with increasing population. Naturally there has been increase in price of milk products. So banning on slaughter was the need of the hour.
All States in India should enact this law in the interest of future generation.

Mr Yeddi did u ever think twice from where your leather wallet and shoes and belt comes from ? if u r so concerned ban the use of leather and promote khadi condoms . jai ho ..take karnataka to stone age ..ban mac donalds which sells beef burgers ..dont allow foreign investments take us back to the forest ..dont stop mining activities ..plunder the people .wipe out the leather industry .lets go green ,

we shall all wear belts made of coconut coir .. wallets made of khadi ..or ask people to stop eating vegetables and plants ..coz the cows u have spared need them to survive .help the neighboring states to smuggle beef into karnataka and help their economy . help the chickens and the goats to be slaugtered more .. in the end ..only cows will be left in this world .along with old bulls like you ..jai ho yeddy ..god bless u with more cows ..cheers

This Law is a BJP voter obligation and they have to pass it or face the people who support it. Now the Governor has to sign it so that it is implemented in Karnataka. The Governor will reject it under the grounds that this was not debated with general public and passed at voice -vote and not by majority vote.
Anyhow now the police have got more tools to take law into their hands if they find someone transporting cattle either for domesticating or for slaughtering.
The BJP has failed in convincing the clauses of the new law to its own people who voted them . And the people who consume beef are Indians before you categories them as Dalits, Christains and Muslims.

There is no such Indian constitution that prohibits consuming beef.
There is no doubt that in India at many states Brahmins have the touch-me-not attitude towards the harijans and other tribes. Almost all the Harijans and tribes consume beef and other meats. Being a well educated and doctor himself the home minister has insulted the feelings of Harijans in Karnataka who might have voted to BJP on Hindutva card.

Apart from this the constitution of India always upheld rights and privileges for the harijans, tribes and scheduled caste in particular and now passing a law for ban on beef means violation of the basic rights provided to the under privileged people

I congratulate our CM and his team of MLA's in succeeding their mission.
Has the Govt. thought of alternative vitamin required to compensate the Beef to the poor who ate this till today? Will the Govt. be able to provide the fodder to the Cows till its death when their number increases? Has the Govt. thought of any plan to protect the poor farmers to provide them free food like cows? So can anybody in the Govt. tell us whether human being is precious or cow? Who needs protection more?

Of course the government is communual and anti secular. 'VINASHA KALA VIPAREETHA BUDDHI' . It will be challenged in the Supreme Court. This is the count down of fall of BJP government in karnataka. The clandstine beef business will continue to run and this bill has given another golden opportunity for the corrupt officials/bureaucrats to make money.

I think this is the only Achievement Yeddy Government did in One and half year rule Banning Cow Slaughtering. There are so many important issues in Karnataka to be solved and instead of solving them Yeddy banned Cow Slaughetring first. Congrats to you and your Team. First of all who are you the President or PM of India to Ban Cow Slaughtering ? Don't expect any votes from us Muslims and Christians in next elections. You have banned a meat which majority Muslims and Christians eat. Even most of the Hindus also eat Beef. Why you are drinking Cows Milk ? Ban this also. Buffaloes, Sheeps and Chicken ? Ban this also.

The "Cow Slaughter Ban Bill" is communal bill in real world to punish minority. If BJP concerned about the cows and buffalos then why their farmers are ploughing and making to slough the cows/Buffalos in the field and beating them like "HELL IN THE SHELL" until blood comes out from thier body. WHY?
