Chennai/Tiruvannamalai, Aug 25: An incident that took place in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu on Sunday, August 25 left people with awe as well as disgust. A woman, US national, fought off a man who allegedly tried to sexually assault her.
The woman had visited Tiruvannamalai earlier this year in March, and after visiting the Ramana Ashram she was planning to return back, but due to the lockdown she could not return and was stranded here. She took a house rent in the city and extended her visa.
On Sunday, August 23, while the woman was sitting outside her house, a man wearing saffron clothes pushed her inside her house and attempted to rape her.
Not expecting the woman to attack back, a trained martial arts, the woman overpowered the attacker, raised an alarm and with the help of some locals caught hold of the accused and handed him over to the police.
The accused was identified as Manikandan from Nammakal. He disguised himself as a saint and was roaming aroung the temple and tried to sexually assault the woman, a senior police officer said. "We are questioning, investigations are going on and nothing more could be divulged now," the officer said.
