Udupi, Sep 19: CPI(M) Udupi district committee staged a protest in front of Udupi deputy commissioner’s office here on Saturday, September 19 demanding the centre to pay Karnataka’s share of pending GST, flood relief and withdrawing false charges registered against CPI(M) all India chief secretary Sitaram Yechuri.
CPI(M) district secretary Balakrishna Shetty addressing the protesters said that the protest also demands that all the ordinances to make amendments to Agricultural Produce Marketing and Commerce Act, Essential Items Act and Labour Acts that are made convenient for multinational companies should be withdrawn. “The MP should oppose efforts to convert them as Acts," he urged.
Pending GST payment, balance of budget funds, relief for floods and droughts should be released immediately. Families with income below taxable limits should be paid Rs 7,500 per month and 10 kg of rice per person should be given as Covid relief, he said.
Shetty alleged that peaceful protests were being projected as criminal acts and protesters falsely being charged. “The MP should oppose attempts to portray peaceful protests as criminal acts. Similarly false cases registered against all India chief secretary Sitaram Yechuri should be withdrawn,” Shetty urged.
CPI(M) district executive committee member K Shanker, Balkis Kundapur, district committee member Mahabala Vadera Hobali, Umesh Kunder, Sanjiva Naika, Nalini, Saroja, Mohan and others were present.
