Mangaluru, Sep 25: “National Service Scheme teaches students to mix with the community and live in fraternity,” said Dr Shanker Adyantaya PU College principal, Dr Navin Shetty K. He spoke at a gathering held on September 24 in observance of the National Service Scheme Day for the academic year 2020-21.
“A student can understand the motto ‘Not me but you’ only by becoming an NSS volunteer. A society grows with the student if the student thinks of the community's well being ahead of himself. NSS teaches leadership qualities and service mentality to the students. Those help in the all-round development of the students. It is wrong to think that children who join NSS lag behind in studies. NSS makes the student grow the attitude of responding to the changes in the society,” he said.
Meanwhile, Vinay Fernandes of Mangaluru Round Table 115 and Dr Charishma of Mangaluru Ladies Circle 82 distributed free mobiles to talented economically backward students who are deprived of online education.
College NSS unit project officers, Sandhya M and Meera Crasta, vice-principal Annapurna Naik and NSS students were present. NSS students presented a demonstration of their work. A day-long camp of voluntary service was held. Student Pallavi welcomed the gathering and compered the programme. Fathima Hafiza rendered the vote of thanks.
