Kasargod, Oct 16: The assistant sessions court here has sentenced Mohammed Ali alias Kasayi Ali (39) to five years of imprisonment for trying to kill another man. He also has been fined Rs 10,000. In case he fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional month inside the jail, the court stated.
Kasayi Ali was found guilty of charges of trying to kill a murder case accused on the road near the court by stabbing him. The incident had happened on December 16, 2013.
An attempt to kill Mouglee Rafiq from Uppal was made near the court complex here. Kasayi Ali was charged with this murder attempt, which the prosecution proved in the court.
Rafiq was the accused of murdering the Muttalib of a mosque near Uppal Mannanguli Maidan. When the police were escorting Rafiq back after producing him in the court, an attempt was made to murder him near the gate, the police said in their report. Rafiq, who suffered stab injuries, and was in serious condition, was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru where he was treated. The police had registered a case against Kasayi Ali, charging him of a murder attempt, obstructing policemen from discharging duties, moving around with arms illegally etc.
