Vijayapura, Nov 3: The banks of river Bhima which had witnessed some bloody incidents of late, seemed to have become peaceful since the last few days. However, on Monday November 2, unidentified assailants fired at Congress leader Mahadev Bhyragonda. Mahadev, who suffered critical injuries was admitted into a hospital. His associate and manager, former member of Keroor gram panchayat, Baburam Maruti Kanchanal (64), who was with Bhyragonda lost his life.
Mahadev Bhyragonda alongwith supporters and accompanied by gunmen were proceeding towards Chadchan on Solapur road on Monday afternoon when a tipper in which miscreants were seated, dashed against their car. Eight to ten unknown people surrounded the cars and pelted stones. On this occasion, the firing incident also happened, after which the attackers fled, said district superintendent of police Anupam Agrawal.
The attackers left behind the tipper on the spot. Baburam, who was the manager of Bhyragonda received two bullet injuries and died on the spot. Bhyragonda suffered two bullet injuries in his abdomen and one on the ribs in the back. Driver Laxman and gunman Ramesh were also injured.
It is suspected that this could either be the result of family feud between Chadchan and Bhyragonda families which is continuing from three generations. Relatives of Bhyragonda have accused Chadchan family of being behind this attack. Some also suspect sand mafia being behind the attack. Bhyragonda is the main accused in Chadchan fake cnounter and Gagadhar Chadchan mysterious murder cases.
