Gujarat sees 60.75% voting in bypolls on 8 seats

Gandhinagar, Nov 4 (IANS): The Election Commission has registered 60.75 per cent polling across eight constituencies in the Gujarat bypolls.

The eight-seat polling process is over and all the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and the Voter Verification Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines have been locked and secured in the strongrooms which will be opened on November 10. There was a significant amount of polling on Tuesday despite the looming fear of Covid-19.

The EC has stated that Gujarat registered a voter turnout of 60.75 per cent on Tuesday, which is quite a significant number considering the present threat of the pandemic, but is also sizeable considering the turnout in bye-elections.

According to the figures provided by the EC, the maximum polling was seen in the tribal region of Kaprada, where 77.50 per cent of voters exercised their franchise. Another tribal region of the Dangs constituency registered polling of 75.01 per cent while 70.01 per cent was recorded in Karjan constituency with 61.82 per cent in the Kutch region constituency of Abdasa.
