Mangaluru, Nov 17: Two trucks carrying huge oil processing machineries got stuck as their height did not allow them to proceed from under the Padil underpass in the city.

The incident happened on Tuesday November 17 morning.

Efforts to divert the vehicles are being made.

Unless the two trucks are moved from here, there is the risk of the spot facing a huge traffic block.

Hasn't anyone blamed Nehru yet ? When the underpass was constructed didn't any of the engineers contemplate that in the future trucks with heavy machinery will get stuck ?

First and foremost we should appreciate the presence of mind of the driver of the truck. He really avoided a big tragedy. Now shifting the fabricated equipment there are many solutions. Am sure the company which is instrumental in erecting such huge mechanism surely will find a solution. There is no point in blaming anybody. Now it is only to find way to shift.

Flavian Mangalore,we need not depend on chinese technics. There are enough good technicians by us.Only Problem is they should use only their mathmatic combination ,and Police should not allow them to go when high traffic during working hours.Such dangerous goods have to go when traffic is less and other routes where bridges are high enough to pass.First they should workout a route then start to go.Not when get stuck.

When British had constructed the bridge its gap was around double the height of present Pill Box underpass which is now only 5mts when moving towards Mangalore, When moving out it is normal 5.5mts, but got water logged which prompted the engineers to raise half a meter reducing the gap in height.
At that time I had commented, what if in a few years bigger trucks & goods arrive? Have they planned for future in sight or present requirement they carried out. Now remove the tires or reduce the air in them & try to move it under the one with the height of 5.5 mts height.

    What Ya ?

For many years complaints about no Bridge.. Now another tone. As already laid Railway track is there, is it possible to increase its height without changing the whole track height from long on both sides ?

Strange that it had passed through many under passes on its way.

Those who green signaled for its movement till this bridge should be felicitated as it helped to come till this bridge...

Lack of route plan by the authorities to ensure the safe transportation of heavy equipment to the destination. Authorities shall go through the risk assessment and ensure that control measures to eliminate/reduce the risk related to the transportation which includes traffic blocks for publics.

Only solution is lift by helicopter and place it in MRPL, or
unload and place it in very low bed multi tyre trailer operated thru remote which is used for very heavy items .
