Chhattisgarh: Assistant commando killed, 10 CRPF personnel injured in Naxal attack

Raipur, Nov 29: An assistant commandant was killed and 10 commandos of the CRPF's CoBRA were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, as per security officials on Sunday. The blast was said to have been orchestrated by the Naxals. "Two IED blasted off, injuring 10 jawans," inspector general of police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.

An improvised explosive device blast took place in the Chintagufa forest area of the district at around 10 pm on Saturday when a team of security forces were on their way back after undertaking a search operation against the Naxals in the area near Tadmetla village.

As per reports, the injured commandos have been evacuated by a helicopter. A joint team of CoBRA and local police were out in the area for a special operation when the blast took place. All injured personnel belonged to the CoBRA's 206th battalion.

Assistant commandant Nitin Bhalerao succumbed to injuries on the way. Meanwhile, 8 of 10 jawans were taken to Raipur for better treatment, an official said.
