Poojary Seeks Memorial for Air Crash Victims

Mangalore, May 25 (DHNS) : A memorial must be constructed with the names of all those who were killed in ill-fated IX-812 Boeing 737-800 that crashed into the valley off the runway at Mangalore airport, said former MP Janardhan Poojary.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, he said that the compensation amount should be increased and that he has already written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel in this regard.

He said the people of coastal district have shown the humanitarian face of the people of the district by taking part in the rescue operations. They have shown the whole world that the people of Dakshina Kannada are united irrespective of caste, creed and religion. People were not bothered about their religion when the rescue operation was being carried out.

Stating that he had written a letter to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel on October 26, 2006 appealing him to expand the existing runway by about 300 metres to facilitate operation of wide-bodied aircrafts from Mangalore airport. The letter also urged to provide provision of appropriate high precision lighting system to help the aircraft to approach and take off from the airport safely at all times and in all weather conditions. The letter had also urged the Minister to establish school for training pilots and night parking facility for aircraft, he added.

He said the State government should provide all the required land for expanding the runway without any delay.

Nothing wrong in u'r suggestion,Mr. Poojary - let The Memorial be a reminder to Piolets / air craft managers, air port authorities - carelessness lead to disaster! Its almost certain human error may be the cause for this tragedy.

Poojari boss, Its pity to make nonsense announcement at wrong time. Looks as if its a remarkeable acheivement for your party that the incident took place in mangalore, was it expected by the party leaders? It would have been a great help for the many poor families if you have requested at least to arrange the compensation money that to be received by the victim to be speed up to complete the process sooner. Or you and the party members think in the name of construction you can collect money and use it for the party purpose. please keep away politics as we trying to get away from the tragic incident.

Mr.Poojary...People of Mangalore were always united except for some rift created by few politicians. So please donot raise the religion issue here.

And why memorial? Is this plane crash an achievement to be always remembered? Please use this money to help the families of the crash victims. Also use your influence at the Centre for upgrading the Airport facilities & extending the runway so that such accidents can be avoided in future.

Poojari Sir, This is such a tragic incident that, we do not have enough strength to keep remembering. So, we do not need a memorial to keep it in our memory. Kindly help victims beloved family members than giving press statements for constructing a memorial. If possible try to influence political leaders to construct extended runway and safety measures (which our leaders did not do earlier), so that such incidents should not happen again

Memorials are generally built to commerate memories of people who have died for a cause, so that future generations can emulate them.
The victims of the Air india express unfortunately died in a air crash . There is no need to erect memorials, but the authorities should enhance the safety standards to prevent future incidents.
