Bengaluru, Dec 30: BBMP Administrator Gaurav Gupta has instructed all the zonal joint commissioners to take strict measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus variant in the city.
He held a meeting with concerned officials on Wednesday at the BBMP head office in the light of Coronavirus variant being detected in the city under BBMP limits.
The administrator obtained information on how many cases were reported in the eight zones and instructed the authorities to comply with the Government's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) rule.
In the city, 18 cases were reported coronavirus positive till date and 54 primary contacts and 92 secondary contacts have been identified so far.
Those who are infected have been admitted to the hospital and the primary/secondary contacts have been placed under institutional house quarantine in a hotel/residency approved by the BBMP.
Two patients who have been tested positive in an apartment in the Bommanahalli Zone, and hence 33 people have been placed under institutional house quarantine in the apartment, officials said.
The new variant of coronavirus is the fastest spreading infection, and there are chances of most people getting infected by it. Therefore, those who came in contact with the patients must be promptly identified and tested immediately, the administrator said.
The administrator said people need not worry about the coronavirus variant. He requested the people to be aware and wear a mask, clean hands with sanitizer and wash hands when necessary.
He asked the zonal health officers to initiate actions to prevent people from being fearful of the situation and raise awareness.
Rajendra Cholan, BBMP's special commissioner (Health), zonal joint commissioners Pallavi, Ashok, Veerabhadra Swamy, Ramakrishna, Shivaswamy, Venkatachalapathy, Narasimhamurthy, chief health officer Dr Vijendra, all the zonal health officers, and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
